1/14/2021 Warn the Unruly

Hello and welcome in today today. Today we are going to look at some scripture from 1st Thessalonians 5:14. It says…

Now we exhort you Brethren warn them that are unruly…

So let’s first of all start by talking about the word exhort because he says now we exhort you brethren.

Exhort in the dictionary means to urge to advise or to caution earnestly or to admonish earnestly.

If you’re going to do something in an earnest manner you’re really going to attempt to do it diligently.

Another dictionary says to strongly encourage or to try to persuade someone to do something.

So the apostle teaches…ee exhort you brethren warn them that are unruly.

If you’re really going to warn people you should do it in a way that is earnest, to tell them the problems that are going to encounter before they come to pass because of the things that they are doing.

I’m trying to think of a situation where you would warn one of your children, perhaps a child starts to walk across a busy highway or a busy street and you earnestly yell at them to come off that highway right now because you’re afraid that they will get hit by a car.

You do it in an earnest way for the protection of that child who you love. For the protection of the people in the church, the ministers were supposed to do the same thing.

The scriptures teach the brethren to exhort one another in the church. The Brethren were supposed to help each other out, to advise and to warn to each other.

There are a lot of scriptures in the Bible that deal with exhortation and we’re going to look at a few here today.

1 Timothy 4:13 ….till I come give attendance to reading to exhortation and to Doctrine.

Paul was off on his Apostolic missions and because of other duties was not capable of being with the church all the time.

He wanted Timothy to give attendance to reading, exhortation to Doctrine which are three vital things that Christians need to keep up on in their life. That command is not just for the ministers but for all men in the church.

Ask yourself this question today. Did I read the Bible today? Did I read some passages and scriptures today? There are a lot of people who read a lot of books out there in the world and I know it. Just look at all the libraries that are filled up with all kinds of books and materials to read.

In the church Timothy was admonished to give attendance to reading,,, which means reading the holy scriptures. It’s not just meant in the church. It’s not just on worship days, but reading them by yourself
In your personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

If somebody truly wants to be a minister of God and preach the things of God obviously they need their read the word of God regularly.

You need to understand it. You need to know it in your heart and your mind. Seeking God In His holy word is something that you need to do daily on your own time so that you can defend the truth of the Christian faith wherever you are at.

The Apostle Timothy was to focus on Doctrine.

The word Doctrine is defined as a belief or a set of beliefs that are held and taught by a specific Church. Another definition says it’s a principle or position or the body of principles or positions in a branch of knowledge or beliefs. It is also referred to as a Dogma

Let’s look at a few more definitions. It says a particular principal or position or a policy that is taught or advocated as of a religion. It is something that is taught or teachings collectively or a body or system of teachings relating to a particular subject.

That is actually the things that we are discussing today. We are discussing the teachings in the Christian church and the original faith that was once handed down to us 2000 years ago. The teachings of Jesus is our Doctrine and Dogma. They are completely unchangeable because God’s word is eternal.

Hebrews 3:13 teaches us but exhort one another daily while it is called today lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

So once again the word exhort, means to urge or to advise or to caution someone earnestly if they are unwilling to follow or obey the teachings of Jesus Christ. In that state they are in a place of rebellion against God. They can be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin and that’s one of the reasons why you should continue to warn them day by day to turn away from their sins to Christ.

Titus 2:15 says these things speak and exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee

So these are some of the teachings that Paul had towards his ministers.

Getting back to our original verse 1st Thessalonians 5:14 says warn them that are unruly.

The word warn means to inform someone in advance of an impending or possible danger or a problem or another unpleasant situation.

You might warn your children at home not to touch the wood store because they’ll get burned. I’ve always felt if you truly love and care about someone else you’re going to warn them. You need to be capable of telling people to think about what they’re doing before they do it.

I worked at a school many years ago and one of the daily functions was to warn kids in the classroom about certain problems that we’re going to arrise if there were going to continue to do what they were doing.

If they continued on that course of action they might get detention or maybe even get kicked out of school. To warn somebody else is to inform them in advance of some unpleasant situation that’s going to befall them if they don’t turn from what they’re doing.

A dad might say to his own children don’t do that because you’re going to get in trouble. He might tell his own wife, don’t do that because there’s going to be problems that arise because of your actions today.

If you’ve ever read the story Robinson Crusoe his dad had warned him but he refused to listen and spent years stranded out on an island.

A teacher at the school might say, don’t keep doing that in the classroom. If you continue on that course you will have to go down and see the principal. That’s what it means to warn other people.

Think about a peace officer who tells someone to lay their weapon down on the ground. He’s giving you an open warning before he has to draw his pistol.

One other definition for the word warn is to give forceful or cautionary advice about the actions of somebody’s conduct.

We were just talking about a peace officer who wanted a person to set their gun down. The peace officer doesn’t want to shoot them or for other people to get hurt. He also doesn’t want to haul people into jail if the matter can be resolved peacefully. A peace officer is kind of like a dad in a family, one of the main differences is that they have a badge and a uniform.

Remember that there are dads all over the world today dressed up in farmer’s clothes, or mechanics clothes or they work for a grocery store but they all serve the same function. They’re all supposed to help their families become obedient good people.

I’ve always felt that the church was a spiritual reform school. Have you ever thought about it like that? We are being reformed by the teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

There are a lot of kids out there in the world today who never had the opportunity to grow up with a dad. They never had the opportunity to have their hearts and minds shaped by somebody who truly cared about them. This is why we come to King James bible. To hear love, rebuke, correction, discipline, admonitions, and warnings. Jesus is the Father to us in the church, and we need to submit to his teachings.

Don’t ever think that if somebody warns you they don’t care about you. I believe with all my heart that it takes more love to warn somebody in the church about the error of their way then it is to ignore it.

Colossians 1:28 whom we preach warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

Lastly today, the word unruly means: disorderly and disruptive behavior. Not amenable to discipline or control. It means that people are difficult or impossible to discipline to rule over.

Think about a substitute teacher in a classroom who faces unruly students who simply do not want to behave or do as they are told.

Unruly people are disposed to disobedience and they are not submissive or cooperative. They’re ungovernable and unmanageable. They’re unwilling to submit to Authority.

Titus 1:10 says for there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers especially they of the circumcision.

2nd Thessalonians 3:6

Now we command ye brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother that walk of disorderly, and not after the tradition which she received of us.

The word disorderly means causing a disturbance or unruly. It means riotous and uncontrolled.

2nd Thessalonians 3:7. For yourselves know how you ought to follow us for we behaved ourselves not disorderly among you.

Riotous means marked by or involving public disorder and it’s characterized by wild and uncontrollable Behavior. Riotous behavior is given to or marked by unrestrained revelry.

The word wanton means mercilus or malicious.

The Apostle Paul was none of those things.

1st Samuel 15:23 Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and Idolatry.

What was the command to the men of the church? Warn those who are unruly. If you care anything about them warn them by turning them to the teachings of Jesus Christ and his word. By doing so, you’re going to be a part of their eternal salvation when they believe what you tell them and repent. They are another brother who was lost but now is found. Help them…. warn them

With love to you all, Lord willing we’ll talk to you later bye-bye.
