In the Old Testament, the Jews were promised a Messiah who would come to deliver them from their sins. The coming of Christ was prophecied throughout the Old Testament.
“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14
Never in the history of the world has anyone been born of a virgin, with the exception being Jesus Christ. That alone is all the proof that the Jews should need to covince them that Jesus is their Messiah. Not only that, but Jesus is also the only one to ever keep the entire Judaic Law flawlessly. No one before or after Christ has kept the law without making a mistake.
Most Jews don’t believe that Jesus filled the “requirements” of the Messiah. So what were these requirements?
-The Messiah was to be born from the descendants of David. He was. (Matthew 1, all the way from Abraham to Jesus)
-He would be born in Bethlehem. “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2
He was. “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,” Matthew 2:1
-He would be born of a virgin. “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14
He was. “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew 1:23
-He would ride into Jerusalem on an ass (donkey) and a foal of an ass. “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.” Zechariah 9:9.
Jesus did. Matthew 21:7, “And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.”
-The Messiah would be killed. Psalm 22 describes (before it even had happened) what would happen at the crucifixtion, from the piercing of His hands and feet, to the parting of His garments. “They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.” Psalm 22:18. And Psalm 22:16, “For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.”
It happened. Mark 15:24, “And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.” Our Lords hands and feet were pierced when they nailed Him to the cross.
-Jesus would be silent at His arrest before they led Him away to be crucified. “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” Isaiah 53:7
He was. When He was accused, He was silent. “But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.” Mark 15:5
Jesus is indeed the Messiah that was prophecied. The apostle Paul himself was a Jew, and he realized that truth. A former Pharisee in Judaism, he knew from his knowledge of the Law that Jesus is indeed the Christ. (Acts 18:5).
There are some who believe that Jews don’t need to accept that Jesus as their Messiah that they don’t need to come to Him for salvation. Some even say that Jesus never even claimed to be the Messiah, but that is simply not true. In John 4, Jesus was talking to a woman at a well and He clearly states that He indeed is the Messiah.
“The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.” John 4:25-26
Unless the Jews accept that Jesus is their Messiah, the cannot go to Heaven. Only through Him is the way to the Father in Heaven.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
Whether you are a Jew or a Gentile, the only way to God the Father is through His blessed Son Jesus. It is only through belief in Him that we can be saved.
In Christ,
Andrew
