Inspired Scripture

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” 2 Timothy 3:16

The word all means “the whole amount, quantity, or extent of; the entirety of something.” If someone ate all of the cookies, it means every one. The whole batch. Or when someone is plays 10 games of cards and wins all of them, then they did not lose even 1. They didn’t win 8 or 9, they won each and every game, all 10.

The word “inspiration” means “the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.” Interestingly, it can also mean “a breathing in, as of air into the lungs; inhaling.” When God created Adam from the dust of the earth, what did He do?

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7

When God breathed “the breath of life” into Adam, he became a living person. Well do you remember what happened in John 20:22? Talking about Jesus, it says, “And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.”

So when it says that all scripture is given by inspiration of God, it means that every verse in the Bible is completely correct and filled with the Holy Spirit. Not half of it, or 95 %. All of it.

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17

For example, before someone takes the witness stand in a courtroom, they are sworn in. It usually goes something like, “Do you solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?”

What that means is that what they are about to speak after that point will be (or supposed to be) completely true; there is no falseness in what they speak. All of the words that they say are accurate.

When Jesus said, “Thy word is truth,” He means just that. There is no falseness anywhere in God’s teachings. The entirety of the scriptures is truthful and completely factual.

Now going to the second part of the verse where it says, “…and is profitable for doctrine for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

Profitable means “beneficial or useful; helpful” or you can gain something from it. You could say that someone who is studying to become a carpenter will “profit” from learning from another more experienced carpenter. They don’t know all of the tricks or tips of how to build something easier or better yet, but if they go to learn from someone who is better at carpentry than them, then they will profit from learning that information. The Word of God is beneficial and useful for instructing ourselves and others about the teachings of God. It helps to show others the errors of their ways, and when someone reads or hears it, it can help them to become a better person for Christ.

There are some who try to take away parts of the scripture that they don’t like or want to obey. Why do you think so many churches that support homosexuality or allow women to preach have so many people in them? Because they don’t want to obey parts of the Bible that they don’t like. So what do they do? They go out and find someone who tells them that what they are doing is ok and they don’t need to change their ways.

These people need to study their Bible and realize that these kinds of things do not belong in the Church. The world might do what is wrong, but as Christians, we need to look to the scriptures and learn from them so that we know and understand what is right and wrong.

When we have a question about our faith, were do we look? We look to God’s scriptures. The Bible has all of the information that we need to know about how to get to Heaven.

If someone is going to take a trip or vacation to another state, how do they know which roads to take to get to their destination? They look at a map, or use the maps on their phone. Well, whenever we need information about our faith and how to get to Heaven we look at the Bible.

The Bible is the most published book in history. If you don’t have one yet, go out and get a King James Bible and start reading: the words written inside can save your soul!

In Christ,

Andrew
