Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
- Good morning and welcome in today. Today we’re going to take a look at a passage of scripture in the book of James. But before we do that I happened to be reading this morning about some of the toughest sled dog races in the world. It’s always kind of been interesting to me to watch this sport. We used to have a husky that we used to tie to one of our bicycles, Ed dog would pull us all over our back roads, but I happened to be reading about sled dog race up in Canada. It’s called the Yukon quest and some considered one of the toughest sled dog races in the world. It happens in early February, people from all over the world to take part of this cold race spans over 1600 kilometers running through a very harsh environment of frozen rivers and mountains between Whitehorse and Fairbanks, Alaska. In order to complete a grueling race like that, you’ve got to have a lot of endurance. Endurance is the factor power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving up the Christian life is very, very much like an endurance run. Look at the book of James beginning at verse 12. Bless it is a man that endureth temptation, for when he has tried, he shall receive the crown of life the LORD hath promised to them that love him, let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither attempt at the any man, but every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it bringeth forth sin and sin, when it is finished, bring it forth death, and during temptations has to do with enduring sufferings that you have to go through in this world in a sled dog race. The musher has to deal with cold hands, cold feet, lack of food, lack of energy or muscle, not to mention to make sure he doesn’t get hurt on the way. Endurance is the ability to withstand hardship or adversity. And the ability to sustain a prolonged stressful effort or activity that teaches us bless it as a man that endureth temptation. A temptation is a desire to do something completely wrong and unwise is to go against conscience and what you know, is right and wrong in your own mind. It’s a desire to do what is evil, instead of what’s right and good. First Corinthians 1013 says there have no temptation taking you, but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that which you are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it. having to go through temptations, is a hard ordeal. When you read about the sufferings of job, look at all the pain, the things that he had to endure. But when you get through them all the way to the other side, who are blessed by does not allow us to be tempted above that we are capable of overcoming James four seven says submit their yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. The more you fight against that temptation, or you endure, the devil runs away. It’s kind of like running in a marathon. And you keep running and running and running and what happens. Eventually people fall out of the race. They quit. It’s the same thing the devil does when you resist him.Rate transcript quality
- First Peter one, verses six through eight says we’re in your greatly rejoice though now for a season, if need be urine heaviness through manifold temptations, that the trial of your faith being much more precious than of gold that parish should not be tried with fire might be found under praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen your love, and whom, though now you see him not yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory. In James chapter one. Verses two through four says my brethren counted all joy when you fall into diverse temptations, knowing this, that the trying of your faith, work at patience, but let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Again, verse 12, blesses a man that endureth temptation. Blessed means enjoying the bliss of heaven. When you’re blessed, good things happen. Think about the sufferings that Joseph had to undergo, but look at the results of what happened afterwards. When you endure temptations, when you’re tried gonna receive the crown of life, the Lord has promised to them that love him. Amos 515 says hate the evil and love the good. Psalms 9710 he that love the Lord hate evil. He preserved the souls of his saints, he delivered them out of the hand of the wicked. Romans 12 nine, abhor that which is evil, cleave to that which is john or third book of john 111. Beloved follow not that which is evil, but that which is good, he that do have good is of God, but he that do evil have not seen God. back to verse 13. It says, Let no man see when he is tempted I am tempted of God, for God cannot be tempted with evil. Neither attempt at the any man
To tamp means to entice somebody to do what’s wrong by promise of gain. Imagine a couple of kids who are seniors in high school and one of them says let’s go out and steal from our neighbor this weekend. You’re trying to tempt one of the kids to come along. tamped means to indict. entice somebody to do wrong if somebody tempts you. It means to cause you to consider or cause to consider doing something wrong or unwise. In today’s vernacular, it’s like pushing somebody else’s buttons to try to get them to do what’s wrong or to go against the teachings of Scripture. That’s what the devil did to Eve in the Garden of Eden. He enticed her to do what was wrong and to go against the will of God. Remember, God does not tempt people. The devil is who tempts God cannot be tempted with evil. Verse 14 says, but every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed lust is described as an intense longing or craving for something as far as sexuality is concerned, God has created marriage as a way to avoid sexual lust which is, fornication, those desires can be taken care of in the bedroom. Lust can take on many different forms though period. You can have a craving for money, a craving for possessions or earthly gain. It’s basically having an inordinate desire for something if someone is enticed. It means to attract or attempt by offering pleasure or advantage. One dictionary says entice means to persuade somebody to do something by offering them something pleasant. Proverbs one verse 10, says, My son if sinners and tasty consent, though not, James, for verse one says, From whence come wars and fightings among you, even they’ve come, the not hands, even of your lust that war in your members? First Peter to 11 Dearly Beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. Jude 116 through 18 says, These are murmurs complainer is walking after their own lusts and their most Biggie, great swelling words, having memes persons in admiration because of advantage. But Beloved, remember you the words which were spoken before the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, how that they told you, there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
So again, every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed and when lust has conceived it, bring it forth sin. Imagine planting a seed in the ground, and it doesn’t come out of the ground unless you add a little water in the water being lust and lust is poured on that seed and starts to come up out of the ground. It grows and grows and grows until it flowers and that’s similar to last in a person’s life is conceived, it brings forth death. Romans 623 says, For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Look at the promise in Romans two seven to them who by patient continuance and well doing, seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life. It teaches that if any man’s sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Lord, we can come boldly to the throne of grace in time of need. But God wants us to endure temptation, if you are capable of doing that. He’s going to receive the crown of life someday choirs that you love the Lord Jesus Christ, more than things of this world, it’s about loving Jesus in the things that he taught more than the things that the world has to offer. Remember, first, john 215, through 17. Love not the world, neither of things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes. And the pride of life is not of the Father, but as of the world, and the world pass away and the lust thereof. But he that do it, the will of God abideth forever. Love is a great, great desire for something. You don’t want to love this world. You don’t want to love the wrong in this world. But you want to love what’s right, and want to love what’s evil, but love what’s good. That’s how you overcome temptations, to love Jesus Christ with all your heart and soul and mind, above and beyond anything in this world. James 511 behold, we count them happy which endure. You have heard of the patience of Job. And I’ve seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy. If you’re running that race of endurance, you need to complete the full course to get to the end in Christianity. It’s about enduring to the end, enduring temptations, so that someday you can inherit eternal life. So let’s think on those things for today and Lord willing, we’ll talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then bye Bye, everybody.
