Good morning and welcome in today.
Today we’re going to take a look at some scripture from First Timothy chapter two but first, I wanted to ask you a question.
Do you like to go fishing? The ice is starting to come off the lakes in northern Minnesota and people are already preparing fishing rods, tackle and their boats. There are numerous fish that we can’t go and catch until the season opens, because they are prohibited by law to do so.
When you prohibit something. It’s the act of prohibiting by authority to do so. It’s when you order something, or somebody to restrain or stop them from doing something. There are numerous things in the law that are forbidden for people to do.
For example, when you go to a school they may prohibit the wearing of certain kinds of clothing. They might prohibit you from wearing hats or clothes that may be to revealing. Maybe you get a job at a manufacturing plant somewhere and it is prohibited to eat while you are working. Many businesses have different kinds of prohibitions.
Another dictionary says prohibition is the action of forbidding something expecially by law.
When we look at the teachings of the Holy Scriptures we come across things that are prohibited and not supposed to be suffered, or allowed in any capacity, and that’s where we are going to begin with our verse this morning.
First Timothy 2:12.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence
The church is run by men who the women need to learn from, and obey. Children in the church will learn obedience as they watch the women obey the men.
In many ways, it’s very similar to the military who have different ranks and positions depending on where they have placed you. They don’t like you usurping over the person who is in command of you. You need to go through the proper channels.
Women teaching or usurping over men in the church is forbidden. The Apostle Paul didn’t suffer it at all which means he didn’t put up with it or tolerate it in any manner.
How many people out there drive a school bus? Think about children in the back of the school bus, throwing stuff at each other or throwing spitballs or pencils, or even getting in a fight. What does a bus driver do? They pull over to the side of the road because they don’t tolerate that behavior on their bus.
The Apostle Paul did not tolerate women teaching or usurping over men in the church. In the world this happens all the time but not when somebody professes to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
The word tolerate means to allow the existence, the occurrence, or the practice of something. Tolerate is to allow it to be or to be done without prohibition, hindrance, or contradiction. There are things that are not supposed to be put up within the church.
Imagine coming in the house and your mother tells you to take your dirty shoes off at the front door, because they’re full of mud. She doesn’t tolerate that in the house because she just spent an hour cleaning. So you see, there are certain things in everybody’s life that we don’t tolerate.
I used to work in a school where my job was to work with a high school boy who had great difficulty controlling his anger. If somebody looked at him the wrong way as we walked down the hallway, he’d lash out to punch them. There were many times that I had to physically prevent him from doing so in order to protect the other children.
Can you imagine a school principal walking by two kids who are fighting it out in the hallway? Would they actually allow that to continue or would they do something about it? It says in the school manual that fighting is prohibited.
So you see, there are rules and regulations and things that you need to obey. You need to submit to those who are your authority.
Those who are in authority don’t tolerate certain things.
But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence
This was such an issue that the Apostle Paul admonished Timothy to not allow it to go on at all. Many places that profess Christianity allow this and it will get progressively worse because of it.
I read a story about someone 500 years ago, who had a daughter who wanted to become a school teacher. Both of her parents told her that if she did that, they would have to turn their back on her. Look at how much has changed.
Everybody has a certain part and duty in the church. Women teaching in any capacity, or taking authority over a man is forbidden. The reason why is because man was created first. God is a God of order. Resisting His order is a state of rebellion against God.
Here is another definition. It says that tolerate is to allow the existence presence, practice or act of without prohibition or a hindrance. It means to permit something to go on.
Do people get to drive down the highway at 150 miles an hour? I don’t know any police officers who would tolerate that. Without authority there is no governance.
Imagine this entire world without any kind of police officers, sheriffs, judges or magistrates. It would be a world of complete anarchy.
So again, the apostle did not suffer and allow these kinds of things to go on in the church.
Is it happening out there in certain denominations? Certainly. Are they actually ordaining women ministers? Certainly. Is it a complete rejection of the teachings of the Christian church? Certainly. The more that they continue doing it, the more their sin perpetuates.
Have you kids ever watched bread rise when you mix it up with yeast and some warm water? Set it out in the sun, cover it with a cloth and wach what happens. It continues to get bigger and bigger and bigger. That’s what is happening in a lot of professing Christian denominations today and it is getting worse and worse and worse.
Allowing women to actually speak openly during a church service is forbidden. They now have women speaking from the lectern, preaching, assisting in Holy Communion, teaching sunday school, and it goes on and on. The church is led and run completely by men. This sin is not hidden, but in plain view to those in society. The apostle didn’t put up with this at all.
When you teach it means to show or explain to someone how to do something. Men are supposed to instruct their women in the home. Women are never allowed to teach God’s Word. Women are supposed to be educated by the man.
To teach means to help someone else to learn about a subject by giving lessons to them. It’s to instruct, tutor, train or educate, which means to impart some sort of information or knowledge to them. Many women profess that they are a prophetess but they are compared to Jezebel.
Rev 2:20-22. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds
She claims to be religious. She calls herself a prophetess, but she is a fraud. She is forbidden by Christ to teach in any capacity in the church. Two or three prophets may speak; not a prophetess. No matter how religious they claim to be, they need to sit down and be quiet with the rest of the women. If they’re really claiming to be a follower of Jesus, then they need to show obedience to Christ. Other women will watch what they do and do the same weather its obedience or disobedience.
Because of certain people doing these kinds of things in the church, and allowing it to go on, the Lord Jesus was very upset.
Isaiah 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
I think this is one of the biggest heresies that is currently going on. Remember, in the Garden of Eden, it was Eve that actually believed a lie.
These kinds of things go on in the world all the time, but the ways of the world and its philosophies are not supposed to be brought into the church. In the church we’re supposed to love the Lord Jesus and follow his direction and guidance. That means rejecting the world and its ways to follow the way of Christ.
Women cannot lead men in the church in any capacity, just like a private doesn’t lead a general in the military and tell him what to do.
As I as I look around each day I realize more and more the reality of how true Spirit-filled believers that sincerely believe in God’s Word are becoming more and more of a minority. I also realize that its a fulfillment of prophecy.
The Lord Jesus warned that before His return, it would be like the days of Noah. Remember how many people were saved from the flood? The rest of the earth perished. Will there be faith on the earth when Jesus returns? There are going to be so many people who are going to be completely deceived at the time he comes back. That is because of a rejection of the things He taught in His Word.
There is there is a way that seems like it’s right, but the truth is it leads to death.
…..O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
Certain religious bodies are being led by people today who are simply leading all of the sheep the wrong way off of a cliff.
Think about being in the military. If somebody gives you a command your response is…. yes sir.. In the home, the husband is the head of the household. He’s been ordained by God for that position. The wife is not to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence and subjection.
To usurp means to take the place of someone in a position of authority illegally or to supplant them. It’s to encroach or infringe upon someone’s rights.
Women teachers and preachers encroach on the rights of men of God to lead the church. A woman does the same thing to her husband at home when she doesn’t obey Him and do his will. Usurp means to hold a position of power by force and without right. The women who are involved with these things are counterfeit Christians. Their openly disobedient and rebellious against Christ.
Remember a true spirit filled Apostle and servant of God says, I suffer not a woman to teach nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
Any man who’s professing spirituality is going to agree statement, along with all the other things that the Apostles taught.
So let’s think about those things for today and Lord willing, we’ll talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then bye Bye, everybody.
