The Sin Debt

Good morning and welcome in today. Today we’re going to take a look at the following passage of scripture.

1 John 1:9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Before you take a drive in your car, you first need to find the keys. Before you go outside to take a walk you first need to find your shoes. Before we get forgiven with God we first have to be able to confess and admit our faults. This is one of the reasons why this verse begins with the word (if).

This word is used to say that a particular thing can or will happen only after something else happens. For example if we do this something will come to pass.

If you show up for work this week you’re going to end up getting a paycheck. If you get all of your homework done you will be able to watch some TV. To get forgiven with God a condition needs to be met first. You first have to be able to admit your faults. This isn’t optional but it is a requirement.

There are certain things that you need to do to be able to obtain a high school diploma. You need to study and pass your courses. It is essential to meet the conditions that are set by the school in order to meet the requirements for graduation. Before forgiveness can happen with God, we first must admit the things that we’ve done wrong.

All of us have made mistakes. What we need to do is be capable of owning up to our own shortcomings so that God can forgive us and release us from our sin burden. Unconfessed sin is like carrying a backpack full of heavy rocks that weighs on your soul day by day. Jesus wants to lift that burden from us but we first must confess and admit the wrongs that we’ve committed.

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

It doesn’t matter if you’re poor or wealthy, it doesn’t matter what level of society you may be at, the truth is, each of us are sinners in the eyes of God. To get forgiven with Him we have to become sinners in our own eyes. We need to look into our own hearts and minds and come to grips with what we truly are. We all desperately need mercy but the problem that prevents us from receiving it is an impenitent heart.

Eccl 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

One thing that a true believer in Jesus accepts is that they cannot obtain eternity without Him. The prophets, Apostles and Disciples of the Lord understood this. Without Christ and his forgiveness there’s nothing left but destruction and sorrow.

Rom 9:29. “And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.”

As I’ve said before we are all in the same boat together on planet Earth. All of us have sinned. None of us are better than the other.

Rom 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

So what is the solution to our sin problem? We have to confess and admit our faults to God.

To confess something means to make known something that you have done wrong or is damaging to oneself or to accept or admit the existence or truth of your misdeeds.

Confession is so important that without it we cannot obtain forgiveness.

James 5:16. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

God wants to forgive us and cleanse us from all of our sins. This is why he sent his son Jesus to the Earth. God is ready and willing to forgive us but sadly the thing that can prevent that is an impenitent heart. When we confess our sins, he is faithful to forgive us.

The scriptures are filled with God’s promises and there is one that we can claim here today. God can and will forgive us of our sins when we admit them.

Sin upsets God and others around us. It hurts him and wounds Him in his heart. God loves and cares for a so very deeply, but because of arrogance and pride our sinful condition turns our back on him. It is such a hurtful thing to do to him.

Everything that we have has been given to you by God. He gives you life and the air that you breathe. He gives you water to drink and the food that grows right out of the ground. He gives you the sun to light the sky during the day and the moon by night. He gives us freely all things to enjoy as a blessed loving father.

It is our sinfulness that spurns that love. I really believe that the worst sin that you can commit is against those who love you the most. That’s just my personal opinion.

Although God has undergone so much suffering because of our misdeeds and sin, even while we were yet sinners He sent his Son to teach us His ways.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Believing in Jesus has to do with understanding our sinful condition and our need for forgiveness with God. It is understanding how much we have hurt Him, realizing how much He cares for us, and admitting our faults before Him.

Rom 5:6-8

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

At judgement day nobody will ever be able to claim that God did not love them. It is evident even in the things of this world that he created for us. It is evident in him sending his son Jesus to die on the cross so that we could have forgiveness with him.

The hindrance to a persons salvation is their own heart. It is the unwillingness to accept the truth that we are all sinners. God loves and cares for us each and every day, but we must understand the fact that we have hurt him. When you hurt others you apologize.

If God didn’t love us I guarantee you we wouldn’t be here right now. His mercy and his patience toward us and this sinful world are amazing. His forbearance only reveals His divinity.

Titus 3:3-5 – For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

It is clear that God cares for us and loves us. It is clear that God wants to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It is clear that everyone on the face of this Earth is a sinner. It is clear that there is only one way to obtain eternal life and it begins with confession towards our precious Lord Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins.

There have been people throughout the centuries who taught that God has predestined people to damnation. I will remind you of this one simple truth today, God wants you to repent more than he does to punish you.

Retribution is not God’s first choice otherwise the world would not be standing here today. There will be eternal punishment someday, but God gives us an opportunity right now to avoid that. He has ample amounts of grace to save you from that punishment. He’s giving you the opportunity right now to turn back to him because he loves you. God will punish sin because he is just but in his great love he wants to save each of us. He wants us to return to Him, confess and get forgiven.

So today I want to you to think about everything that God gives you during your day. I want you to recognize and to realize how much God cares for you. I want you to think about the suffering that Jesus endured at the cross out of love for you. When you think of all these things, admit your faults to Him. God doesn’t want anybody to perish but that all will come to repentance. Repentance begins by admitting the truth of what each of us are, a bunch of wretched sinners.

Let’s think about those things for today and Lord willing we will talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then bye-bye everybody.♥️
