Good morning and welcome in today. Today we’re going to take a look at the following passage of scripture.
1st Timothy 2:11-14
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
To learn something means to gain or acquire knowledge of a certain skill either by study by experience or being taught. A Christian woman’s calling is to learn silently from a man.
Luke 10:38-42
38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
When a woman learns from a man she needs to be a quiet listener. The word silence means complete absence of sound. I always think of it when I walk into the library and there’s not a sound being made.
Even a school teacher will have the kids settle down as they begin the class. Silence is the absence of any sound or noise. The Apostle Paul didn’t allow a woman to teach a man. She is supposed to learn from him. They are supposed to be in complete subjection unto them. The word subjection means showing obedience or loyalty to somebody else. It means submitting or being controlled by another person. When she is being instructed by the man she needs to be quiet. They need to allow themselves to be taught.
1st Cor 14:34
34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
These things are forbidden by the Lord Jesus. It’s been going on for many years. They’ve been ordaining women and allowing them to speak at a pulpit or a lectern and even teach Sunday schools. These things are absolutely forbidden in the church.
Isiaah 3:12
As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
Revelation 2:20
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
So you see, this has been going on for many years now but not in the true church found inside the Holy scriptures. You have to understand that God is a God of order. I usually think of it as the military. There are different places of power and authority such as a general, sergeant or corporal.
A man is woman’s Authority. Just as a child is supposed to obey their parent in everything, a woman has to place herself in subjection to the man so he can educate her and guide her in biblical truth.
But the Apostle did not suffer a woman to teach. That is one of the functions of man. It’s forbidden for her to teach in any capacity.
2nd Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
To teach is to show and explain to somebody else how to do something. It’s to impart knowledge or skill to, and give instructions.
She’s also not to usurp authority over the man. To usurp is to take a position of power or importance illegally and by force. It is to take the place of a position of power illegally. The archaic definition means to encroach or infringe upon someone’s rights. A woman’s authority is man. It is forbidden for her to go over his headship. Again God is a God of order.
In verse 13 the Apostle puts this in perspective by saying Adam was first formed then Eve. That shows order. Even things that were done in the church were supposed to be done decently and in order.
Genesis 2:18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
1st Cor 11:8-9
8 For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.
9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
So God specifically made Eve as a helper for him. It is her calling and purpose.
Man is her authority. Remember that Adam was not deceived
Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
She wanted wisdom and she was deceived by the devil. The devil wants people to fight and rebel against God. She needs to learn from the man in silence but she is forbidden to teach.
