Perverting Truth

Good morning and welcome in today. Today we’re going to take a look at some scripture from Galatians chapter 1 but before we do that, I wanted to ask you a question.

Have you ever known somebody in high school who tried to get you to do something that you knew you shouldn’t do? Have you ever had friends at one time who tried to turn you away from your beliefs?

God’s word is a map that leads us in the right direction. Just like a ship or airplane follows a certain course, God’s word is a map that He wants us to follow in order to make it to Heaven someday.

Galatians 1:7 – Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

There are many people today who are trying to alter and change the Christian faith because they won’t submit and believe the truth of what it teaches. In their own eyes they can do no wrong and will not allow scripture to show them otherwise. Instead of admitting fault or wrongdoing, they simply alter the scriptures so it says the things that they want to hear.

2 Tim 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

Many people today want to profess Christianity and believe that they are going to heaven but they don’t want to believe what the Bible teaches, and it will only get worse and worse and worse until the return of Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 3:13 – But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

There are many false prophets in the world today and a lot of them are professing to be Christian. One of the signs of a false prophet is allowing women to preach God’s word or teach scripture and speak in the church. The Lord Jesus Christ is really upset when men allow Jezebel to do these things. (Rev 2:20)

When you pervert something it means to alter it from its original course meaning or state, to a distortion or corruption of what was first intended. Pervert means to change something so that it is not what it was or should be. It is to cause to become different.

Many times when we cook, we follow a recipe card so that the end result is the same each time you make it. Doesn’t it make sense that if you alter or change the recipe card you’re going to have a different result then what was originally intended.

As we speak today, there are massive amounts of heresy that are going on against the truth of the Christian faith. The Christian faith never changes because it is the truth. It becomes obscured by people who won’t accept the truth in their own hearts and minds and then they preach and teach lies to others. We are supposed to strive for the truth of the Gospel given to us 2000 years ago.

Jude 1-3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

I’m sure many of you like to take a bath. Have you ever jumped in the bathtub without sticking your finger in the water and testing the temperature? Chances are if it’s way too hot you might get burned.

1 John 4:1 – Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

We are supposed to test the waters of a false prophet. You’ll know who they are by their faith in the teachings of scripture. When you contend it means to strive or vie in contest, rivalry or against difficulties. It also means to struggle.

Many times when I read this verse I think about sports competitions. People are struggling to win the game. We want to win in regards to the Christian faith. We want to do the things that please God and honor Him. It doesn’t matter the evil that goes on all around us in this world. What does matter is that you continue to believe in the teachings of Christ until the day we go and meet Him. Each day he sees our faithfulness, and it will be rewarded.

The word false means not according with truth or fact; incorrect. It means not real but made to look like it is real. It also means insincere.

Each day in the movies and theater productions, people try to appear like something that they are not. What they are doing is role playing. There are many people who profess to be Christian who are doing the same thing today. They appear to everybody like sheep while the truth is that they are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

A heretic lead you away from Biblical truth rather than obedience to it. Although all of us have come short of the glory of God and we are all sinners, a heretic will not admit fault. They will claim to be faultless and lead others on the path of heresy with them. Heresy is a terrible sin because those involved with it lead others away from Christ and His teachings and they are responsible for it.

2 Peter 2:1 – But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

There are many people today who continue to pervert the gospel of Christ. They are not preaching the truth of Christ, but a false gospel. It’s not the Jesus that is spoken of in the scriptures, but a false Christ.

2 Corinthians 11:4 – For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

If I told you the sky was red when it’s actually blue, that’s like heresy, it’s really not true. God’s Word is the truth.

Although society changes year-by-year like a chameleon, God’s truth is unchangeable. It is a constant unmovable anchor for our souls. Heresy is to turn away from the truth of scripture. It is to turn away from the will of God and the Lord Jesus Christ to do your own will. It may feel good for the moment but in the long run it only ends up in death and eternal punishment. All we need to do is confess our sins and come boldly to the throne of grace so that we can begin a new walk with Him in faithfulness and obedience.

I think that’s where I’m going to stop for right now but Lord willing we’ll talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then bye-bye everybody. ♥️
