The Rebuilt Transmission

Goodmorning and welcome in today. Today we are going to take a look at some Scripture from Luke but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a story.

Many years ago, me and some co-workers were traveling out to a job in Wyoming. While driving my conversion van through southern minnesota, my transmission went out and I had to pull into a gas station in a tiny little town. I asked the attendant if there was a garage open to fix my vehicle but because it was a Sunday there was no one availiable. I told the cashier that I needed to be in Wyoming on Monday, but he said everything was closed in the area.

When I walked back out to the van, a man approached me and had overheard my situation in the gas station. He told me to follow him 3 blocks to his house. When we got there I pulled into his garage and he told me he would rebuild my transmission. He said all of us could relax in his house as he worked on it.

While we waited, his wife and family served us a wonderful dinner complete with dessert. We visited with them while watching television and playing cards. Eventually he came in from the garage and told us that we were ready to go. We were all very grateful for his hospitality and thanked both him and his family. Because of his kind help toward us, we got to our job on time.

Compasssion for others is a wonderful thing.

Luke 10:25-37

25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

God wants us to be merciful to each other. To show kindness and compassion to our neighbors. Mercy is the compassionate treatment of those in distress or who are suffering. Compassion is sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.

1 Peter 3:8 – Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous

The church is supposed to be a place of compassion mercy and forgiveness because these are the qualities of God.

Psalm 145:8-9 The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 – Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

God is perfectly just and will show and treat you in the exact same manner at the judgement as you have shown others.

Matthew 14:14 – And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Jesus is filled with compassion, and will show compassion to people at judgement day who have shown compassion to others.

James 2:13 – For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

In the latter days, many people will turn away from the true Christian faith. The will be unkind and unmerciful, contrary to what God is.

Luke 6:36 – Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

in order to obtain forgiveness at tje judgement, you must forgive others who confess fault.

Matthew 5:7 – Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

None are righteous, we have all sinned. Salvation is by God’s incredible grace.

Matthew 9:13 – But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Hebrews 4:16 – Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

As a professing Christian, what are we called to do?

Colossians 3:12 – Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

You will be judged at how merciful and forgiving you were while thereupon the Earth.

James 2:12-13 – So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Luke 6:36-37 – Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

When people realize that they can’t get to heaven without God’s mercy, I would hope that would teach them to be merciful with others.

That’s where I’m going to stop for today, but Lord willing, we’ll talk to you some more tomorrow.

Till then, bye bye everyone.💓
