Good morning and welcome in today. Today we’re going to take a look at some scripture from 1st John chapter 5 but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.
Many years when Andrew was very young I was coming back from a job down by Duluth. It was kind of a long drive and I eventually pulled over by a gas station to take a break and get a can of pop. While I was fueling my van, I happened to notice that somebody had a trailer that they were selling things out of. I decided to go over and take a look and saw that they were selling battery operated cars that had been refurbished. These are the ones that little kids ride in, that you can buy at a commercial box store. I took half my paycheck that I had made that weekend and bought him one.
He had so much fun on that thing, and drove it around our lake when we went on walks. He drove it when my wife and I went on bike rides. Up and down the driveway and down the back alley he went. He drove that car all over the place and had an absolute blast with it all summer long. It was a free gift I got him, just because I love him.
Have you ever had something that was freely given to you before? Maybe someone gave you a wedding present or birthday gifts. Maybe your dad bought you a car when you graduated from high school. Have you ever been at a rummage sale when they decided later in the afternoon that everything was free for those who wanted to take it?
When you give something it means to freely transfer the possession of something to someone or to freely hand over. When something is free it is of no cost to you. Someone else took care of it and simply gave it to you.
God wants to give us the gift of eternal life through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.
1 John 5:11-13 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
When you give it means to turn over the possession or control of to someone without cost or exchange; as a gift. In Christ Jesus we have grace and forgiveness with God. It is our sinful condition that pays out death, but because of God’s love and grace, we can inherit life through the blood of Christ that He shed at the cross. Salvation is not by our works, but by the works of Christ.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Eternal life is in Christ Jesus. We have that promise that we can hold on to. A promise is to assure someone that one will definitely do, give, or arrange something; undertake or declare that something will happen.
1 John 2:25 – And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
God wants each of us to be in heaven with Him someday and has provided us with Jesus so that we can get there. He wants all men to come to repentance.
John 6:47 – Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
If you truly believe in Jesus with your heart, you will believe in the forgiveness of God. Forgiveness is something that we cannot earn, we simply need to come forth and receive it. Being forgiven with God through Christ is the road to salvation.
John 6:54 – Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
In order to inherit eternity, we must partake of Holy Communion. There are people who have communion today who really don’t believe in their hearts that they are partaking of Christ Jesus. In communion Jesus is present in physical form on the altar. Communion is a miracle of God because He manifests Himself to us in physical form so that we can partake of His unending life.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
To believe means to be persuaded of the truth or existence of:
Jesus is the Saviour that God sent to this world as an atonement for our sinful condition. Salvation can only be attained through faith in Him. He is the one door that leads to eternal life.
John 5:24 – Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Eternal life is a gift from God. All of us on the face of the Earth have sinned but God grants us forgiveness and a path back to himself, and it’s found in Christ. We have all done something wrong in each of our lives, but God’s mercy can wash all of our sins away. Jesus is the most precious gift that we could ever be given.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Forgiveness in Christ is the only way to life eternal.
1 John 5:20 – And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
Jesus lives eternally because He is God. To partake of Him in communion is to partake of eternal life.
John 6:51 – I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
God wants us to live forever with Him, but we must come to His Son. He cares for us, but wants us all to believe in His beloved Son Jesus.
Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Salvation is a gift. It’s found through faith in Christ. Have you accepted God’s gift for you?
think about those things for today and Lord willing we will talk tomorrow. Till then, bye bye everyone.💓
