Second Gear

Good morning and welcome in today. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from Heb 13 but before we do that I wanted to tell you a little story.

Many years ago andrew and I went down an old logging trail to retrieve some scrap vehicles. It was the middle of winter and extremely cold. We had to use tire chains to get down into the site. There was approximately 12 inches of snow but we went anyway to see if the vehicles were worth scrapping out so that we could buy some staples for our family.

After looking at the vehicles we decided to go home and think about it. On our way home I didn’t realize how far down we had gone. We had descended approximately 1000 feet to the site. The heavy snow really did a number on my transmission.

The way out was all uphill and my poor scrap truck could not handle it. By the time we got to the top of the hill, all of the fluid had boiled out of the tranny.

No matter how much I asked her, no matter how much I pleaded with her, she would not move. Andrew and I were about 2 miles from the main highway, and we started to walk.

I did have a cellphone and called a friend for help. In 30mins or so he showed up with a trailer, picked up my scrap truck and brought us into town.

For many years I drove without second gear because I burned it up and couldn’t afford to fix it, but I will never forget the help of a neighbor so readily given to me and my son.

Do you like to help other people? There are numerous ways that you can help others. When you help somebody else it means to do something that makes it easier for someone to do a job, to deal with a problem, etc. or to aid or assist.

Heb 13:6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Many of you out there today have dealt with the same things when a friend comes and helps you, but today we’re going to talk about a wife and how she is supposed to be your greatest helper.

The dictionary defines a helpmeet as a helpful companion or partner, especially one’s husband or wife.

Gen 2:18-25

18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Why was a woman created?

1 cor 11:16 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.

For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.

Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.

For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.

Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

.Ephesians 5:22-24 – Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Wives need to obey their husband. They were created to help him.

Col 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

1 Timothy 2:11-12 – Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

1 Peter 3:1 – Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;   (Verses like 1 Peter 3:1)

1 Peter 3:5-6 – For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

Help your husbands, especially when they are stuck in second gear.

Think about those things for today. Lord willing we will talk some more tomorrow. Till then, bye bye everyone.♥️♥️
