Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
When I was a very small boy I was up playing in the grass over by our garden when I happened to see something move and catch my eye. I really wasn’t sure at first what exactly it was but somebody yelled from the garden that it was just a big old frog. I ran into the house and grabbed a standard 1 gallon ice cream bucket from the basement. For the next five or ten minutes I was chasing that big bullfrog around the backyard. I couldn’t believe how high he could jump up in the air. This frog was so enormous that it took your breath away. I finally nabbed him by the back of his hind legs but he was kicking so hard and he was so hard to control that I had to flip that ice cream bucket over on top of him in order to trap and catch him. Slowly I stuck my hand underneath the bucket and flipped it over and that frog covered the entire bottom of that ice cream bucket. I think that’s the biggest frog that I’ve ever seen and it really took my breath away.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
It can really take your breath away to see how extremely large a Christians faith can grow into and become.
Matthew 13:31-32 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.
Faith is defined as complete trust or confidence in someone or something or a strong belief or trust in someone or something. It is to possess sincere belief in the existence of God.
Hebrews 11:6-7 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
The ark was a huge example of Noah’s faith and trust in God. It’s been claimed that the ark contained 3.1 million board feet of timber and is literally of Biblical proportions: 510 feet long, 85 feet wide and 81 feet tall. That is roughly the size Genesis 6:15 says God told Noah to build it: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits tall. Noah had a big faith and the ark was the result of it.
Another example is Abraham’s huge faith.
Heb 11:17-19 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Let’s take a look at one from the gospels.
Matthew 8:5-13 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
The greatest faith in Israel at that moment was a centurion. His faith was huge! Lastly, lets look at the huge faith of Moses at the Red Sea.
Exodus 14:21-22 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
Faith is complete confidence and trust in God and understanding that there is nothing impossible for Him.
Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
Just a little bit of faith can result in something huge, just like a little tadpole eventually grew into……
…. My Bullfrog
It really amazed me to see the size of my bullfrog. God can make big things happen. How big is your faith in Him? God can make big things happen. He can take a small frog and make it huge.
