Good morning and welcome in. Today we’re going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to ask you a question.
Do you like eating fish? We live in a small little town up in northern Minnesota where our highways and roads are usually flooded with trucks campers and fishing boats that are passing through to endeavor to find fish on one of our 10,000 lakes. They purchase bait, lures, batteries for their trolling motors and gas for their boats and head out onto the lake on a quest for fish.
I really enjoy eating fish as they have for thousands of years even in biblical times. Jesus fed them fish at the feeding of the 5000. Jesus fed Peter fish on a beach. Jesus had fish after the crucifixion when he met with his disciples. Fish is a really good meal and I think the most popular meal in northern Minnesota is fresh walleye.
I tend to eat a lot of Northern pike myself but it seems most of the people up here love walleye. From what I’m told it seems to be a fairly finicky fish to catch and they will spend hours and hours on a lake to try to find them. Early in the morning they go, in search of a fresh walleye to fry up for breakfast.
When it comes down to it, whether it’s looking for walleye early in the morning or even going into your fridge to find some food for breakfast, what is the first thing that you seek in your day?
Matt 6:31-33
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Many people are so concerned about the things of this world that they miss out on the greatest thing in this life, the knowledge and relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Society becomes so busy with earthly things that when they roll out of bed in the morning, they completely forget about God. Everything else seems to get placed before Him. Instead of being first he becomes last. Jesus needs to be first in our hearts each day.
Ps 5:3
3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
Remember that our Lord Jesus went out early in the morning to pray and to spend time with the heavenly father. It needs to be done first in our day before anything else.
Mark 1:35
35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Whatever is most important to you will be first in your day. It could be heading off to a job or or running off to the breakfast table.
If there’s anybody who deserves to be first in our lives, it’s the Lord Jesus Christ who laid down His life for us at the cross for our salvation.
Psalms 88:13 – But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.
We want to show him our love and commitment to Him by seeking him first in our day. He needs to be our first and greatest love.
Proverbs 8:17 – I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
Have you ever made up a to-do list? A lot of us do so that we can get certain things accomplished during our day. Maybe we want to get the garage cleaned out or pick up the property. You might even want to get the boat ready so that you can go fishing this weekend. The thing that I want to ask you today is what is on the very top of your list? Is time with God at the top of the page?
Ps 63:1
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
As I’ve always taught my family, God is a rewarder. He can reward us in numerous ways.
Hebrews 11:6 – But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
So once again, what is first in your day? First means coming before all others in time or order; the earliest; the foremost in position, rank, or importance.
What’s most important in your day will always be first.
Deuteronomy 4:29 – But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
What is it that you seek first in the morning? God rewards a diligent seeking heart. Are you showing Him by your actions how much you love and care about Him that you want to meet with Him first thing in the morning?
Let’s think about those things for today and Lord willing I’ll talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then, bye bye everybody.❤
