My Pygmy Goat

Good morning and welcome in.  Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a story.

Many years ago I bought a small pygmy goat from a neighbor.  She was getting ready to give birth and would eventually produce fresh goat milk for her 2 kids and my young children.   I was actually amazed at how much milk that little goat put out.  I can remember going out to a small building where I used to milk that small pygmy goat.  After I was done the milk was nice and warm and ready for the children to drink. it certainly didn’t last for very long and they would drink it up like they were drinking water. As the children grew bigger I picked up a larger goat from another neighbor.   I figured that we would have plenty of milk now,  but the kids had such a great desire for it, it all disappeared quickly.

A desire is is to long or crave something.   Just as milk helps children grow up physically, God wants us to desire the milk of his word so that we can grow into spiritual maturity.

1 Peter 2:2-3  As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

No matter what our age may be when we become a baptized believer in Jesus Christ we become spiritual children who require spiritual food.  We are reborn into the family of God.  Can you think of something in your life that you have a very strong desire for? To crave means to have a powerful desire for something.

Our children have always had a great desire for chocolate oatmeal drop cookies. It seems like when they are set on the kitchen table they disappear in a few minutes.  Each of us want to have a great hunger and desire for Gods Holy Word.  His word is perfect and righteous, converting our hearts and minds. It brings great blessings for those who seek it.

Matt 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Up here in northern Minnesota a lot of folks have a great hunger for wild game birds, fish, or shooting a deer. I would certainly agree with them that these critters are certainly good eating but they only really provide for our physical needs.

What I mean to say is that they only nourish our bones and our bodies but they do nothing for our spiritual needs in our hearts and our minds.

As a newborn Christian we are supposed to desire the sincere milk of the Word. This is why we really need to understand what the word “desire” means from the dictionary. It means to wants something urgently or strongly.

Think about the plants that grow in a garden and how they need the nutrients and the water that comes from the soil in order to grow. Think about a bird who brings her little chicks worms in her nest that they gobble up quickly so that they can eventually grow up big and strong.

In order for us to grow up and mature in the Christian faith we need to hear God’s Word and it needs to be preached to us on a regular basis. It exhorts us, guides us, leads us and encourages us to follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember that an immature child can be led astray from the truth. This is why we need to grow up in God’s word. This is so that when decievers or seducers try to lead us away from our faith, we are mature enough to understand the right way from the wrong way.

The definition of mature refers to someone or something that is full grown or adult, either physically or in terms of behavior and attitude.

To mature spiritually we need to be hungry for scripture. It is the food that we need in order to grow into what God wants us to become.

In order for things to grow they need to be fed. In the church we need to be fed steadily with God’s word. Spiritual men in the church need to step foward and help people to grow in their faith, beginning in their own home. Preaching is not meant simply by one person in the church but prophetic men need to take an active part. It’s like feeding and watering God’s garden. Speaking the truth of God’s word helps us to grow into maturity.

Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.

The Christian life is about growing up.

Ps 92:12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

The church was maturing in their faith and they were growing everyday.

2 Thess 1:3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

If you understand how forgiving and merciful God is, it’s time to seek after His Word with a full heart and to love Him the way he first loved us.

Lets think about those things for today and Lord willing will talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then, bye bye everybody.❤
