Good morning and welcome in. Today we’re going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of Hebrews.
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
When you do something boldly it is in a confident and courageous way or showing a willingness to take risks. It’s something done without hesitation or fear in the face of risk or danger. It’s doing something in a brave manner.
This is the manner in which the Lord Jesus wants us to approach Him when we are looking for mercy and forgiveness. He is ready to forgive and cleanse us from our faults. Many people in the world today don’t want to admit sin because if they did they would have to suffer the consequences for their actions. When you really think about it, how many teenagers have done something wrong at home but they don’t want to tell their parents because they would get in trouble for what they did. Can you imagine coming up to a parent, admitting you did something wrong to them and instead of forgiveness, they punish you?
Romans 3:24 – Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Justified has been defined as the remission of sin and absolution from guilt and punishment; or an act of free grace by which God pardons the sinner and accepts him as righteous, on account of the atonement of Christ.
Can you imagine in the story of The prodigal Son if when the son returned and confessed his faults, the dad chose to punish him with hard labor until he worked off everything that he had spent? That would be completely unmerciful wouldn’t it. Jesus wants us to return to Him so that He can forgive us and reconcile. We want to come to Jesus boldly for grace.
Ephesians 3:12 – In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
When you possess confidence it means confidence in American English ; 1. full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing. In the Christian faith, we have confidence in Christ knowing that Jesus will forgive us if we simply come forward to Him and confess.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We use this verse during Holy Communion so that we remember how faithful and forgiving our Lord Jesus is. Like I already mentioned, people can have great difficulty admitting their faults because if they do, they feel that there’s going to be repercussions for what they’ve done. That’s because of a lack of trust that those sins will be covered up and castaway.
John the Baptist was a prophet of God who lived out in the wilderness. Think about how many sins that he must have heard as people confessed them to him in the Jordan. John didn’t go and broadcast people’s sins to the world, but blessed them as he baptized them in the river for remission of sins. Our Lord Jesus Christ wants all men to come to repentance. Instead of being afraid and fearful, we must come to him confidently and boldly, knowing in our hearts that he is faithful to do so.
Hebrews 10:19-23 – Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised;
Let’s look at some more of a passage.
….Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy,…
To obtain something means to get or to acquire. You may go to the grocery store to obtain some fresh eggs so that you can have some tomorrow morning for breakfast. You went through the motions of going over to the store to get the thing that you wanted. In order to receive forgiveness, we need to go to Christ Jesus. He doesn’t make it difficult to obtain, He simply wants us to admit our faults. When we do this, He can forgive us completely. When we realize the full extent of God’s mercy and kindness through this process, the Church must learn to treat one another in the same manner.
Ephesians 4:32 – And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Colossians 3:13 – Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Every time we have holy communion in the church our sins are washed away through the blood of Christ. Because Jesus has done that for us, and loved us that much, we also ought to love one another and to be tender-hearted and merciful to each other.
James 2:13 – For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
Luke 6:36 – Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
Matthew 5:7 – Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Let’s continue further…..
….,…….Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need……….
There are certain times in the Christian Life that we each need some grace. How many times will a child fall down before he finally learns how to ride a bicycle? How many times does a skateboarder fall down before he eventually masters the trick that he’s been working on? How many attempts did it take before the creation of a light bulb? Sometimes it takes a while until that light begins to glow in our lives.
Life on this Earth is a process of learning, and just like everything else, the Christian Life is no different. The church is filled with sinners who through God’s grace and mercy, are attempting to do the right thing. But even though someone makes a mistake along the way, the most important thing is that they get back up to try it again. God gives us grace and forgiveness to do this very thing. When certain people condemn, our God offers forgiveness. If we fall down, He wants to help us back up. He wants us to succeed. He wants us to overcome. In our time of need, he extends to us the free gift of his grace so that we can try it again!
Are you going to try it again? Are you going to get back up?
Let’s think about those things for today and Lord willing I’ll talk to you some more tomorrow. Till then, bye-bye everybody.❤️
