“Dinner’s ready!!!!”
During this time of year, families throughout the world will prepare and eat all kinds of excellent foods. Turkeys, hams, pies, cakes, vegetables and sweets, plates will be piled high as families around the world partake in the Christmas feast.
The morning of the great feast, the kitchen will be as busy as a fast food restaurant, as the cooks scramble to have everything cooked, baked and done by dinnertime. Young eyes will continuously peek into the kitchen to spectate all of the wonderful goodies that await them later, maybe even trying to sneak in a few nibbles.
As soon as the last dish is finished, and the table settings are set, the dinner is ready. Finally the wait is over. Now is the time to eat, and if you want some of that feast, you need to be present at the table. Sitting and ready.
This picture that I have tried to paint in your minds is similar to the return of Christ. We know that He is coming back for His believers someday, and that He is preparing a place for us to be with Him, but we don’t know exactly when. We can know when that time is drawing near, but not an exact date and time. Just like if someone wants to eat at that feast, they need to be ready, or they will miss out.
“Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” Luke 12:35-40
The word ready means “prepared for immediate action or use, or liable to happen at any moment.”
There are some flowers that only flower once a year. One such flower, called the “night blooming cereus,” only blooms once every year, and it’s flower only lasts for a single night. If you want to witness this flower, you need to be watching, and ready.
The return of Christ is a once-in-a-lifetime event. He is only coming back once to bring His followers back with Him. Watch, and be ready. Be ready today, and tomorrow, and the next day, until that day finally comes. Believe me, you won’t want to miss it.
“But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.” Mark 13:32-37
Once again, Jesus is preparing a place for us in Heaven, and we need to be preparing ourselves as well. We need to be living the way we should be today. We need to change and turn from our sins today. Not tommorow. Not when “we have time.” Today!
“(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” 2 Corinthians 6:2
When Jesus returns, it will happen at a time unannounced. Are you ready?
In Christ,
Andrew
