New Linoleum

Good morning and welcome in. Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from 1st Peter but before we do that I wanted to ask you a question.

When you were young was there ever a time that someone bought you a nice big box of crayons?  A lot of times we will get a coloring book to go along with it. But although paper is supplied to work on, sometimes there are other things that can be used as well.

For example, have you ever come home only to find that the children have drawn all over your freshly painted walls and completely ruined the new kitchen linoleum?  The children understand the wrongness of their deed but now the stains are etched into the floor for everybody to see.  But the loving dad goes out and buys brand new floors and walls and completely covers it all up, never to be seen again.

Love covers a multitude of sin.

1 Peter 4:8-10  And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging. As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Fervent charity is showing great warmth or intensity of spirit.

When there is a lack of love the result is a very bitter unforgiving heart.  The church needs to be a place that is filled with mercy and grace, sharing forgiveness with each other.  All of us have made mistakes but we are taught to come boldly to the throne of grace in time of need.  God loves us dearly and wants to reach out with His grace to cover our sins, completely washing them all away in His Divine love.

Forgiveness requires love.  Love is the end of the commandment.  The more forgiving you are with others the more love dwells in your heart.  We can show the love of God to others by forgiving them as He has forgiven us

Forgiveness from God is a gift, the greatest one that I have ever know.  Each of us need to recognize how incredibly forgiving He is and His manifold grace and extend it to one another in the church.

Colossians 3:12 – Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Proverbs 10:12 – Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

1 Peter 1:22 – Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

Colossians 3:14 – And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

God wants to forgive us of our sins and wash them all away.  Just like the children in our story He wants to cover them all up.

Let’s think on those things for right now and Lord willing we can talk some more tomorrow. Till then, bye-bye everybody💟
