Gods Mighty Hand

Good morning and welcome inn.  Today we’re going to take a look at a passage of scripture from 1st Peter chapter 5.

1 Peter 5:5-7  Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.  Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

To submit means to accept or yield to a superior force or to the authority of another person.  Another definition is to yield to the authority, control, of another.

For instance, think of how children need to yield control to their dad and obey Him, or how a believing wife yields to the husband’s complete authority and rule in the home.  In both cases the dad is the superior force, one to be obeyed completely.  This is the mark of true submission done so out of love for Jesus.

Ephesians 5:24. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

Hebrews 12:9. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Imagine having a job out in society somewhere and there’s a person in charge or has authority over you. Submission is to submit to your boss otherwise you’re not going to last very long.  You probably would get fired or written up for insubordination.  You get further in life when you humbly submit to those who are above you because obedience pleases them.

Have you ever watched people walking their dogs on the street and noticing how their dog continues to resist their leash?  It’s because they are not submitting to the control and authority of their owner.  They fight it, and constantly try to run away from it.

When we realize what Jesus went through on the cross so that we could obtain forgiveness with God and truly understand His great love,…….humble submission to those that He places in your path should be the next step.

1 Peter 3:5. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

In the military it’s the private who must learn to submit to the General, not the other way around.

1 Timothy 2:11. Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

To submit requires a meek heart.  Jesus is perfectly submissive to the will of His heavenly Father, always performing His will.

Matthew 11:29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Humility is required to submit to what Jesus taught.

James 1:21  Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Matthew 5:5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

The Apostle Peter teaches us today that God will resist pride, which is completely opposite to submission and humility.Ā  Forgiveness is granted to those who humbly reach out for it.

Luke 18:9-14  And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.  The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.  I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

God’s Mighty hand can be seen in places of authority, who we need to submit to out of love for Christ and the gospel.  He careth for you.  Submission shows that we care for Jesus and the places of authority that he has designated in our lives.

So let’s think about those things for today and Lord willing we can talk some more tomorrow.  Till then, bye-bye everybody.šŸ’Ÿ
