Psalms 108:3 “I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.”
During the holiday season leading up to Christmas, stores and retailers will slash prices, offering their items up at an incredible discount off of their normal prices. To let the public know that these sales are happening, the retailers will advertise, both online and in printed ads. If they didn’t, how would people know?
If people don’t see how a true Christian acts, how will they know? Because of this, we need to set an example for all the world to see. We need to let our lights shine, so that they can see the Light.
Matthew 5:14-16 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
A light in a dark room by itself, is just that, a light in a dark room. It is when you flip that switch and the light turns on that everyone can finally see that light brighten up the room. Just as in the parable of the virgins in Matthew 25, we need to be like the five wise virgins, filled up with the oil of the Holy Spirit so that we can be ready to let our lights shine before men.
That is our purpose. That is our mission and goal: to bring praise and glory to Christ. Our Object of affection is greatly worthy to be praised, and we can bring even more of that praise to Him by letting others see our good works.
1 Peter 4:11 – “If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
When we are children, we always look up to those older than us, often mimicking or imitating what they do, which is why children need to have a good example set for them, with the hope that they follow that same example. As Christians, the world is our audience, watching to see how we act and live. Watching to see what this thing known as “Christianity” is. Set a good example. Let your lights shine bright!
In Christ,
Andrew
