The Ice Cream Truck

Many years ago I used to go to play at a city park during the summer. Well, I guess I went to many different parks over the summer, but this park was different from the rest. It had an very unique feature which led to me choosing to go to this park over all of the others. Every day around a certain time (I can’t remember exactly, but sometime in the afternoon), an ice cream truck would arrive at the park, loaded with all kinds of different popsicles and ice cream. Just the sight of this vehicle would send nearly every child in the park charging towards it as fast as their legs could take them, all eager to get their hands on an ice cold treat.

Being children, time wasn’t as much as a concern to us; we could spend an hour on a swing and it would go by like a snap of our fingers. As such, we didn’t really know what time it was at any given moment. Because we didn’t know exactly what time the ice cream truck would show up, we needed to keep an eye out for it’s arrival. We knew that it was coming sometime each day, but if we wanted to make certain that we got some of that ice cream we needed to watch. We needed to be ready and waiting with money in our pockets, because if we weren’t we would miss the truck.

The coming of the Lord is like this. We do not know exactly what day or time, but we know He is coming sometime. Because of this, we need to be ready, and watching.

Luke 12:35-40  “Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;

And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.”

If we want to go back to be with the Lord in heaven someday, we need to keep an eye out and watch for His return.

The second coming of Christ has been published and made known for nearly 2,000 years, and while we do not know this exact day, Jesus has already told us that He is getting a place ready for us and when the time comes, He will return to bring His followers back to be there with Him.

John 14:1-3  “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

The next time that Jesus comes to the Earth will be the ONLY time. Like the ice cream truck, if you want to obtain eternal life you need to be ready now. That is why it is written in the Bible, “now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation.” The time to live for Christ is now. Today. Immediately. Tomorrow could be too late.

Mark 13:33-37  “Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”

Each day is one day closer.

Are you watching?

In Christ,

Andrew
