Compassion on the Ignorant

Goodmorning and welcome in everyone.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of Titus.

Titus 3:2-4  To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.  For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.  But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

Gentle means to be tender and amiable and of a considerate or kindly disposition, friendly, polite and respectful.

1 Thessalonians 2:7  But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:

2 Timothy 2:24  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

Tender means being soft-hearted, fond, loving, gentle, sweet and sympathetic.

Ephesians 4:32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Psalms 145:9  The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

When you possess these qualities, people will recognize that you are a lowly person in nature.  Jesus is perfectly humble and meek, so humble that He laid down His own life at the cross for the sins of the world.

Matthew 11:29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Jesus went into the temple and threw over tables and scourged them, but being Jews, they were claiming to know the Lord.  Living in sin and claiming to know Him, brings on a different response than someone who is completely ignorant.  In the world, there are people who are in a state of ignorance to biblical truth.  They haven’t heard and believed in the gospel yet.  We want to extend to them the gentleness and love of Christ.  In the church, we are rebuked and corrected at times, even sharply.  We are warned about certain behavior that doesn’t come into compliance with scripture.  We can save some people with love, but others need to be saved with fear,… those who are rebelliously turning their ears away from scriptural truth.  To those who are outside of the church, and are completely ignorant of the knowledge of God’s will, we must show the compassion of Christ to them.

At one time the Apostle Paul was completely ignorant of the Christian life and really didn’t know any better.  All of us, at one time and our lives, were the exact same way because all of us are sinners.

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Paul was persecuting people, trying to stop the Christian church from advancing, but he was still in the ignorance of unbelief. He had not been baptized into the faith yet, and was still a Jew in the flesh.  Paul was eventually converted to the faith, and recognized how much that God loved Him.

Galatians 2:20-21  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.  I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

In the church, all of us have a past, from which we’ve come out from, and now through conversion, we don’t live like that anymore. We did foolish and dumb things that now we regret.

…………For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

But even when we were still in that state, God loved and cared for us.  Even before we had repented, even before we had a change of our heart and amended our sinful way, the love of God our Saviour toward man appeared.  He extends to each of us a gift of grace and forgiveness.  We cannot inherit eternal life unless we repent and turn away from our sinful living, God’s grace is available for those who desire to do so.  No one will ever be able to say at judgement day that God didn’t love me, because He proves His love each and every day as the morning sun rises.  The reason why people will not inherit the kingdom of God, is because they didn’t love God back by transforming and doing His will.  God loves this world, but that doesn’t mean that we will automatically get to heaven because you must overcome sin by living your life in compliance with the truth. You must become obedient to what God wants us to do. Heaven is going to be a perfect holy place, and this is why we need to prepare ourselves right now for the future, turning from sin to the truth.

God truly cares for us all. He laid down His own life on the cross for all of us, so that we could have remission for our sins.  When you take the step of faith, and are submerged in water into His name, we begin a new life of obedience to God. Through His grace, we have been given the opportunity to change from our old sinful ways, to become new creatures, dedicated to doing His will rather than our own.  After you become a Christian, we must go through this transformation and conversion, through the application of biblical truth.  Our previous ignorance is replaced by the knowledge of God’s will.

1 Peter 1:13-14, 23  Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;  As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

The church is a spiritual school where we gain spiritual knowledge so we can to grow up and mature in our faith.  Some people have not the knowledge of God, so when you see people who are complete unbelievers in Christ, you need to understand that they are in the same place that we were years ago.  It’s not God’s first choice to throw people into hellfire. God wants to save us, but we must believe in Jesus and cooperate with that saving process. He wants all men to come to a place of repentance.  Through God’s grace, the past doesn’t matter, what matters is what we do with our future.  God wants to take us in a completely different direction, steering us onto a different road. This is what happened with Paul who later recognized that it wasn’t right for him to be called an Apostle, but nonetheless, by God’s grace, this is what he became. So you see, Christianity is about change.

This is what God does, when we accept His love and gift of forgiveness.

This is what God does, when we allow His Word to transform us into new creatures.

This is what God does, because He can have…..

………Compassion on the Ignorant

Let’s think about these things for right now, and Lord willing, we will talk with you some more tomorrow.  Till then, bye bye everybody. ❤️
