Goodmorning and welcome in everyone. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to share something with you.
Have you ever used a crowbar before? They are used to pry into something. Some people have used them to pry the door open in order to get inside another man’s home.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
As we’ve talked about numerous times, a man is the head of his household. He has been granted that authority by God over his own wife and children. Scripture clearly teaches us that to get involved in another man’s household, and his family’s private affairs is a sin. Just like a crowbar, they pry themselves into another man’s home, and become involved with the evil works of a busybody.
1 Peter 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
There are sins in the scriptures that result in numerous other sins as well. For example, committing adultery with another man’s wife, is also being a busybody. A busybody is a person who pries into, and meddles in the affairs of others. What a meddler does is try to change things, or have an influence over things that are not their responsibility. Within a man’s household, a busy body will interject themselves in between a man and his wife or his children. The Apostle Peter teaches that a busybody is just as bad as a murderer. God has placed man as the authority over his household, and for those who come in between that relationship between him and his own family are involved with sinful works of the flesh. Most often it happens from parents, relatives, in-laws, and grandparents who feel like they have a say so over a man’s home.
We must understand that in a marriage, a bride is given away by her dad when she marries her groom. At that point, He and his household forfeits any right to authority or influence over his daughter and her new home. Her husband is now in charge of directing her and guiding his family. For them to interject themselves into his family is to sin against him and the teachings of Christ. Unlike these other blood relationships, a man and a wife become one flesh and produce children. God has granted the husband absolute authority to rule over his household, and to guide and raise them in biblical truth. Those who try to intervene between him and others in his family are usurping his authority. God is not mocked, and those who get involved with this kind of behavior are certainly going to suffer because they are resisting Gods truth.
2 Thessalonians 3:11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
To pry, is to try and find something out, that is none of your business or concern. A busybody is a snoop, who intentionally gets involved uncovering secret or private information. They are also an intervenor who attempts to come in between relationships within a man’s household. Remember that the devil tried to come in between the relationship between Eve and God. The devil wants to try to come in between a man and his wife. The devil tries to come in between a man and his children. The devil is a usurper, just as someone who usurps a man’s authority over his own household. The devil doesn’t want to submit to God’s places of authority, and will someday usurp over all that is called God. The devil wants to be worshiped, not to submit to authority. This is why becoming a busybody is so evil, because it’s usurping God’s authority that he has placed in the home. Resisting his authority will result in damnation.
Romans 13:1-2 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
A busy body likes to poke their nose around, trying to see what’s going on inside a man’s private matters. Have you ever been driving down a busy interstate in a big city, when the traffic slowed down, and almost came to a stop. The reason why is because there was a fender bender that happened on the side of the road. People will slow down, put their head out the window and try to find out, ” what’s going on?”. They refer to them as gawkers. The patrolman is there, and truth be told, it’s none of their business. What they should focus their attention on is safely driving down the road and getting to work. A busy body is far more concerned about others and what they are doing, rather than looking at their own life.
1 Timothy 5:13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
When people start to pry into other men’s personal matters, it is the very first step towards gossip. They learn things and then share people’s private or personal business with others, especially when they aren’t present. All it is, is idle talk and chatter.
Matthew 12:36-37 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
The older women were supposed to teach the younger women to love their husbands, but some of these women have simply followed Satan, getting involved as a busybody with another man’s home. They are a marplot who attempts to frustrate or ruin a man’s plans or undertaking, by interfering in his household. Like a crowbar, busybodies try to come in between other people’s personal lives, and are filled with the idle speech of tattling, which are the works of the devil. A tattler is somebody who notifies the authorities of illicit behavior, revealing private matters. To tattle is to report another’s wrongdoing. It’s the same thing Noah’s son did, when he told his brothers about his dad’s indiscretions. (If it wasn’t for his dad, he would have died in the flood.)
Discreet means that you are capable of keeping private things private. Older women were supposed to teach the younger women to be discreet and obedient to their husbands.
Titus 2:4-5 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
So this is why you never want to get involved with the private family issues of another man.
It’s his business, not yours.
It’s his family, not yours.
It’s his children, not yours.
It’s his wife, not yours.
God is watching, and he will punish the works of a busybody. Some people will follow after the ways of Satan, and attempt to pry themselves into another mans personal family matters, just like a thief with a …..
…….Crowbar.
