The Refrigerator

Goodmorning and welcome in everyone.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that I wanted to share something with you.

How many times have you noticed that when people have an important appointment coming up, they place a note on the refrigerator.  Each time they open it up, they are constantly reminded of the appointment so that they don’t forget.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

The apostles were constantly bringing the church into remembrance.  The best way to not forget something, is to constantly refresh your mind with the things that you have been taught. No matter how many times we hear the scriptures, it’s a good thing to keep it in the forefront of our minds each and everyday.

2 Peter 3:1-9  This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:  That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:  Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,  And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.  But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 1:12-13  Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

In the last days people will scoff, which means they will show contempt and derision, even mockery towards our Lord Jesus and His teachings.

Matthew 27:28-31  And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.  And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!  And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.  And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

When others mock you, it means that they laugh and talk about you or an idea, in a way that shows that they think you are stupid and silly.  They do this because they don’t want to turn away from their sinfulness.  They don’t want to believe that God is going to punish their behavior.  Instead of turning from sinful living, they make a mockery of the Christian Life by continuing to live in sin.

Proverbs 14:9  Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

Those who choose to live an impenitent life will receive the reward of impenitence.

Galatians 6:7-8  Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Jude 1:16  These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.

Instead of walking in scriptural truth, they continue to rebel and walk the wide road of sin to destruction.

Matthew 7:13-14  Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Remember that God punished and destroyed the world in the past, and it’s going to happen again to all those who refuse to turn from sin, and do God’s will.  Even though the Lord Jesus loves this world, and laid down His own life as a sacrifice for their sins, some will refuse to submit to His love and mercy, and repent of their evil way.

2 Peter 2:4-6  For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and  delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;  And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;  And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

The reason why the Lord Jesus has not returned as of yet, is because He is long suffering. He doesn’t want people to perish, He wants them to repent.

Jeremiah 26:3  If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

To truly achieve lasting conversion, you must possess a contrite heart. You must feel Godly sorrow for what you have done wrong. This is a sorrow that causes a change in a person’s life, resulting in becoming an overcomer of the world, and reconciled to the will of God.

2 Corinthians 7:8-10  For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.  Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.  For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Those who choose to live in sin are certainly going to ruin their lives,

Ezekiel 18:30  ……Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

To inherit the kingdom that’s coming, we must do the will of God rather than our own.

1 John 2:17  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

We need to bring an obedient heart to our God, so that we can transform and be found blameless in his presence.

 2 Peter 3:13-14  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.  Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

We must always keep in mind the teachings that we have learned from scripture, so that we can steadfastly and diligently please God day by day, until that final day that we can be with Him forever.  Never forget God’s Holy Word, and its constant reminders, reminders that are far more important than ones you might find on….

……..The Refrigerator

Let’s think about these things for right now, and Lord willing, we will talk with you some more tomorrow.  Till then, bye bye everybody. ❤️
