“Foolish” Wisdom

Take a look at a scientific formula or equation some time. Can you make sense of it? Most people can understand the basic fundamentals of science such as the elements, the human body and such, but when it comes down to reading, writing, and understanding a complex scientific formula, most people just cannot understand it. You can stare at a piece of paper with the writing on it for hours but without someone helping you to understand it it will all seem like gibberish.

I like to take apart small motors on occasion, maybe clean a few things, replace a few broken parts, and put them back together. But that is the extent to my knowledge. So for any more complex or difficult repairs we will take our motors to a mechanic who has years worth of knowledge and understanding. I sometimes watch as they work, and I am amazed at how little I know about fixing a motor. It is like I am a baby and I am trying to learn a second language. I just feel completely confounded.

Likewise, those who are not filled with the Holy Spirit just cannot understand the spiritual teachings and doctrines of Christ. You have two different time types of wisdom in the wisdom of the world and the wisdom that comes from God. They are completely different, as the wisdom that comes from God is so, so much more deep and important in comparison to the world’s wisdom. Because of this, the world simply cannot understand the wisdom of God. They may think that they are wise with all of the wisdom that they have attained from years of learning the information in the world, but it is all unimportant overall.

1 Corinthians 1:18-21  “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”

If you talk to a person who has ingrained themselves in the world and it’s philosophies, they will have a very difficult time understanding the things that are found in the Bible. To them it will seem like foolishness to spend time learning about Christ, but that “foolishness” is wiser than they will ever be able to become.

1 Corinthians 1:25-28  “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:”

Let us seek after that wisdom. The world and everything in it, all of the knowledge, all of the achievements-it will all be gone soon. Our lives are a vapour, here one moment and gone the next, just like the world and it’s wisdom. Seek the wisdom that comes from God, whose knowledge will last you forever.

In Christ,

Andrew
