Good morning and welcome in everybody Today I want to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
In 1883 one of the largest and loudest ever recorded sounds in history happened when the volcano named Krakatoa erupted. The explosion fired up hot ash, fifty miles into the air. They claim Krakatoa measured a six on the volcanic explosivity index, with a force of 200 megatons of tnt. By comparison, the bomb that destroyed the Japanese city of Hiroshima had a force of 20 kilotons or nearly 10,000 times less power. The Krakatoa eruption generated so much noise, that it’s commonly reported to be louder than the space shuttle that takes off at Cape canaveral.
This reminds me of the Christian life…
Sometimes, many people don’t really think about the incredible power of a volcano, but we must remember that God created them. He created volcanoes, and he also created an eternal lake of fire, to punish the impenitent. Imagine what Sodom and Gomorrah must have sounded like when they were destroyed. Numerous people today, don’t give a second thought to the power of God’s judgment. Ultimately God is going to punish sin, but really, that is not His first choice. He sent His only begotten Son Jesus to save us, and to turn us away from our sins. He wants all men to come to a place of repentance. Someday, heaven and Earth are going to pass away with a great noise, and I’m guessing that it will be louder than Krakatoa.
2 Peter 3:10-13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
When Andrew was very young, we were getting water from a continuous flowing well, which is over 200 ft deep. It’s approximately 10 miles from our home. As we filled up our water jugs one day, I happened to see a military fighter jet, approaching in the the corner of my eye. It came at us very fast, and at an extremely low altitude. I don’t think he was more than 50 feet above the treetops. I yelled at Andrew to hit the deck, because I wasn’t sure why he was so low, and maybe he was trying to emergency land his plane. To this day, that must be the loudest thing that either of us have ever heard In our lives. I’m sure now, that the pilot didn’t know that we were there, because he peeled off into higher terrain afterwards. The airforce trains in the remote areas of our county, but the point being, that jet motor was LOUD.
What’s the loudest thing that you have ever heard? Maybe it was a deer rifle, or a bomb that was dropped during a war. Possibly it was a hand grenade, or maybe you lit off a brick of firecrackers. But what do you suppose it’s going to sound like, when the heavens are destroyed with a great noise? When Jesus returns in the heavens above, this event will be like no other in history. The heavens and the Earth where we reside will be destroyed, and His faithful, will be carried away by the angels to a new home. Can you imagine what kind of sound might be produced, when the entire universe and all of its celestial bodies are destroyed by God?
Luke 17:26-29 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
Each day many people live on this earth and don’t even contemplate or think about death. None of us are in control of our life, as much as one would want to think that they are. Our life and death does not matter on what we eat, or how much we walk the treadmill each day. For what it is worth, I am convinced that life and death is not something that any of us can control, residing only in the hands of our blessed God. After all, He created life, and He can take it when he wishes. When God decides that this world is done, it will be dissolved according to His will. You can’t save the planet, because God will eventually destroy it.
Isaiah 34:4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.
How many of you have been told that somebody passed away? The Lord Jesus teaches us that both heaven and Earth shall pass away, but His words are eternal.
Matthew 24:35-44 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
The current earth that we live in has both the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, but upon the new earth that is coming, There will not be a sea anymore.
Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
There is a new world that is coming, and it will not be the place that we currently living. To attain that world, means that you need to come to Christ Jesus and believe on the things that He preached. God calls us to repentance.
2 Peter 3:8-13 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
God is very patient and He is waiting for us to change our minds. Will you change and turn from sin? I guarantee you, that a loud noise is eventually coming when this Earth and everything in it is destroyed. In my own mind I would guess that it will be a lot louder than the explosion at…..
…….Krakatoa
