The 2 Shell Egg

In all of our years raising chickens I have compiled many memories that have stuck out from all of the rest. One such memory that I have is that one morning it was decided that we would have eggs for breakfast. We proceeded to start cracking the eggs into the frying pan one by one, until I witnessed something that I had never seen before, and have never seen since. One of the eggs that I cracked open had two shells! It was like the egg was enclosed inside of another egg, using the outside shell as armor, the two layers of shell protecting the egg yolk inside.

Daily reading and study of the Holy Scriptures is like putting on pieces of armor, each piece fortifying and strengthening you a little bit more with each verse.

Think back to when you first heard about and believed in Jesus Christ. At that early time in your faith you didn’t fully understand everything that was encased between the pages of the Bible. You were young in the faith of Jesus, like a tender young plant just sprouting out of the ground. But with each passing day that you applied yourself to study and growth, searching the word of God, it was like you were slowly donning pieces of armor. Physical armor is used to protect physical things, but the armor that you applied through your learning of Christ will protect a place that no weapon on Earth can penetrate-the soul.

Piece after piece, verse after verse, day after day, the study and application of God word to one’s life will only further strengthen their defense against the sin and deception of the world. You always need to remember, this is not Heaven. This world is a battleground of sin, and as soldiers of God we need to prepare accordingly, arming ourselves with the word of God.

Ephesians 6:11  “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

This is why the Apostle Paul exhorted the churches to continue to keep up on their gathering together to learn and grow in the Spirit of Christ. They all had at sometime start out with the milk of God’s Word, but he wanted them to progress further and further in the knowledge that is found in Christ. He wanted them to continue putting on their spiritual armor so that they could prevail in their spiritual battles.

Romans 13:12  “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

Maybe you have seen a video of a large group of animals in Africa, such as the water buffalo. These buffalo are commonly found in large groups of 10 to 20 animals in a herd, with reports of sometimes up to 100. Well, when baby water buffalo are born they obviously are not as strong as the adults, and they need to be protected from the dangers around them, most especially lions. What the adults will do is form a ring around the young, protecting them from the hungry lions very much like armor. Do you know what this reminds me of?

1 Peter 5:8-9  “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”

The devil can come in many forms. He may present himself as “an angel of light” while in fact he is only out to destroy one’s faith. He doesn’t want you to believe in Jesus, he wants to lead your away from Him, and he will throw many things at you to try to cause you to sin. Don’t let that happen. Don’t let the devil ruin your faith. Surround yourself with the armor of God’s holy word, and never take it off.

In Christ
