Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Communications between people have happened in many different ways over the centuries. Sometimes they would use a telegraph, or in more recent years a telephone. In the age that we currently live in, many people will strike up conversations via smartphone or a computer, but instead of using full sentences in their texts or their emails, many times they will use short abbreviations.  One of these is IDC which means I don’t care.  

This reminds me of the Christian life.

You might not care what color socks that you wear today. You might not care about what kind of dinner you eat tonight. But you want to make sure you steer clear from anybody with this attitude towards scriptural truth, especially if they profess to be Christian.

1 Timothy 4:1-2  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

First of all, the Apostle teaches that some shall depart from the faith.  Depart means to deviate (from), be different (from), fail to conform, or to go away (from).  To deviate from our faith means to go off course from; to change course; and to stray.  Departing from the faith doesn’t necessarily mean that a person completely renounces Christianity.  Many people want to claim to be followers of Jesus, but don’t want to come into compliance with the teachings of our faith.  They may do parts of it but other parts they reject.  They fail to completely conform to the will of God.  They appear Christian in certain aspects, but then they resist and deny certain teachings of scripture.

2 Timothy 3:5-8  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.  For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.  Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

It’s like taking a loaf of bread out of the oven and it looks really good on the outside, but when you cut into it, you find that there is nothing but uncooked dough in the the middle.  Many people have turned the Christian Life into a breeding ground for sin. They don’t want to give up claiming that they believe in Jesus, and they don’t want to give up their sinful lives either.  They claim Lord Lord, but they are filled with sin and iniquity.  Scripture teaches that we are supposed to depart from iniquity not to depart from the faith.  There is only one true Christian faith, and we must contend for it each and every day.

Jude 1:3  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Ephesians 4:5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

There are numerous people today who have departed from the truth of the one true Christian faith, because they refuse to repent. Some of them are involved with heresies, and after a few warnings, you’re not supposed to have anything to do with them.  They may claim to be a Christian, but a genuine follower of Christ will lovingly submit to the will of God found in the teachings of Scripture.  The faith that they claim to possess has become skewed, and they err.  As I’ve said for 20 years, it doesn’t matter what you claim to be, it matters what you do.  The Lord Jesus told people to go and sin no more.  The beloved apostle John wrote the church so that they would sin not.  But when people depart the faith, they depart from the truth of scripture.  If they depart from scriptural truth, the only thing left for them to believe is lies, resulting in disobedience to God’s will.

2 Timothy 4:3-4  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2 Timothy 3:13 – But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

A seducer is someone who lures another away from their Christian duty to Christ.  They beguile them, causing them to depart obedience to the commands of Christ, and steering them away from scriptural principles and conduct.  This is what the devil did to Eve in the Garden of Eden.  It continues to go on today.  A true man of God will take you to scripture and try to convince you to become obedient to God’s will.  The false prophet along with false prophetesses, will try to convince you otherwise, and attempt to justify going against God’s will and His commands.  That is exactly what the devil did in the garden. He’s gone as far as publishing false perversions of the Bible in these latter days.  He can appear like an angel of light, but it’s only a facade, because it is the devil underneath.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 – For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Some will be so hoodwinked by the devil, that when God’s Word is preached, they will speak evil of it, blaspheming against the truth.

2 Peter 2:1-2  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.  And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

Jude 1:4 – For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. 

The Apostle teaches that these same people will speak lies in hypocrisy.  Scripture teaches that all liars shall have their place in the Lake of Fire.  This is all that awaits them, because they reject the truth.  Ananias and Sapphira died on the spot when they lied to Peter to his face.

John 8:43-45  Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.  And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

Hypocrisy is a feigning to be what do you are not.  Many religious leaders came out to listen to Jesus preach, appearing outwardly as just men.  But they really were not there to grow in God’s Word.  They only wanted to find something out about Him so that they could deliver Him to the authority of the governor. they are prime examples of hypocrites.

Luke 12:1  …….he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

Lastly, somebody who has a seared conscience performs a sinful act against the will of God, and doesn’t feel bad about it.  This is because their conscience is burned and numb from any feeling. They don’t care about the way that they live their life, or abiding in the true faith, because of which It can result in so much pride and arrogance that they actually boast about the wicked deeds that they commit in a public manner.

I will warn you, never become like unto them.  If there is anything that someone needs to be concerned about while here upon the earth, it is doing the will of God, so that someday we are able to enter into eternal life.  You are not supposed to depart from the faith, you are supposed to strive for the faith.  Make sure to mark out those around you, who impenitently refuse to walk in the will of God.  When it comes to biblical truth, take note of those who possess the attitude of..,….
