Listen To The Warning

Psalms 145:20  “The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.”

Beware of the dog. Danger- high voltage. Floor slippery when wet. These are just a few of the many different warning signs that you can find throughout your day. The word warn means to make someone aware of impending danger, or to tell someone to be aware, or to give heed.

Your body can warn you as well, through the use of your senses. You can see a car driving straight towards you and your eyes will relay that message to your brain and cause you to get out of the way. You can be in a different room of the house when a fire breaks out in the kitchen, and your nose will smell the smoke. Your hands feel whether things are hot or cold. When I was in elementary school I went to a fire department as a field trip, and one of the things that they had us do was to feel a door whether it was hot or not, to determine if there was a fire or not on the other side. When I felt one of the doors, I could sense that it was hot with my hand, and because of this I knew that this door shouldn’t be opened.

A warning is something that alerts you to a consequence that can or will happen if something isn’t done. Noah was warned about the flood that was coming in the future, and he did something to protect himself and his family by building the ark. He heard the warning and listened to it, and the result was the salvation of his house.

Hebrews 11:7  “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”

Now, the Bible is filled with many promises of everlasting life. But to receive it, one needs to take heed to listen to the warning to keep away from sin.

Romans 2:1-10  “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:”

The natural nature of man is to look at others and try to position yourself in a higher place than them. But the truth is that there is no one better than another, and we will all be judged equally, because there is no respect of persons with God. Whatever you do, whether it be good, or if it be sin, will be rewarded accordingly.

Galatians 6:7-8  “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”

Romans 6:23  “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

It seems that everyone likes the idea of eternal life, but the truth is that there will be many, many sad and angry people on Judgement Day as they are one by one turned away from the gates of Heaven. And why? Because they didn’t listen to the Lord’s command to keep themselves from sin. Search the scriptures and you will very soon see that sin is not something that will be rewarded by God. Eternal life is a reward for those who make the decision to serve Christ and abide in His teachings. Those who sin willingly and refuse to change will receive the wrath of God upon themselves, and that is a place that you certainly do not want to be.

So take heed to the warnings in God’s Word. They are there for a reason.

In Christ
