Isn’t it amazing how some things can change from one form to another in an instant? We can lay ourselves down in our beds at night, close our eyes, and almost instantly it seems that we are opening our eyes and it is morning. The entire night had passed in the blink of an eye, even though it may have been seven or eight hours. Just instant teleportation from night to morning.
There have been times where I was starting a camp fire, and while I was throwing on a bundle of dry sticks apparently they were so dry that they caught fire immediately and the result was a giant explosion of flames that made me step back quickly. But not quick enough apparently, as the hair on my arms got completely singed away! One moment it was there, the next it was all gone.
And this is how the Bible teaches that our bodies will be changed at the coming of the Lord, instant transformation from the fleshly bodies that we see today into something completely new. A body that will be completely different than our bodies that we are in now.
1 Corinthians 15:50-53 “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
Because of the way that our bodies are made, we die. Our bodies die because of sin, and it is for this reason that our bodies need to be changed before we can enter into the Kingdom of God. In Heaven there is no corruption. There is no decay or aging, unlike how it is on the Earth, and on the day the Lord returns our bodies will be turned from corruption to incorruption. Transformed into bodies that will not grow old, in the blink of an eye.
Philippians 3:20-21 “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”
When Jesus died on the cross, it wasn’t His Spirit that died, just His earthly body. But now the the Lord is back in Heaven with the Father and He is back in His heavenly body once again, and on the day that we will go to be with the Lord, Jesus will transform our bodies to be just like His, bodies that can live forever.
It will be a great day, the day that the Lord returns and gives us brand new bodies. No more aching bones. No more sore muscles. No more aging and dying. Just an eternal lifetime in a body that never dies. And it will all happen, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.
1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
In Christ,
