Over the years of people have made their houses out of just about anything. Before the western parts of the United States were settled some people used to cut the sod right off of the ground and make a sod/dirt house, until they could find something more suitable. Up in the Arctic some may have chosen to make a house out of ice and snow, called an igloo. The native American tribes of North America would often stretch the skins of animals over a log frame to make a teepee, and in other parts of the world you may find grass huts.
Today, many homes are pre-manufactured in a warehouse and then trucked to a location and set in place. I just saw the other day that they are now creating homes out of giant 3-D printers, using a type of concrete, which was really amazing to see. But out of all of the different house types and out of all of the different materials that are used to make them, the house is only as good as the foundation that it is set on. You could make a beautiful cathedral of a house out of sturdy bricks, but if that house is set on soft ground it will slowly sink. Just look at all of the homes every year that get pulled down steep hills after strong rains in a mudslide. Beautiful homes, just completely destroyed because they weren’t founded on something solid.
To ensure the longevity of a home it needs to have a strong foundation, just as a person needs to have a strong foundation in the teachings of Christ.
Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”
The very first and most important part of building a home is it’s foundation, because without a good foundation everything will fall apart. The very first part in the life of a Christian needs to be the teachings of the Lord because it is His teachings that are the basis and starting point of our faith, and without the strong foundation of God’s Word in one’s life the only result will be complete destruction.
We are told to place the Lord first in our lives throughout the Scriptures. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, it says in Matthew 6:33. This means that it needs to precede everything else. The Word of God needs to be the starting point and foundation that we base our everyday lives on. All of the teachings of the apostles of the Lord are the teachings that they received from the Lord and the Holy Spirit, and they are the very basis of our faith that we may look to each and every day for our spiritual growth.
Ephesians 2:19-22 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
We need to be built on Christ and His teachings. When our lives are built on the things of Christ, it is the strongest foundation that can be built on, and if you continue in them you will never fall. You will endure, day after day, weathering through all of the trials and temptations of your faith, solid in the truth of the Lord, because you have been founded upon the Rock, from the ground up.
In Christ
