Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture From 1st Timothy.
1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
The Christian faith is contained throughout the teachings of the New Testament, and was handed down to the original church by the Apostles and disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. To be in the faith, means to walk daily in the truth of scripture, submitting yourself to the will of God. The Apostle John was greatly pleased when he received a good report that the church was walking in God’s truth.
2 John 1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
3 John 1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
The Lord Jesus has always obeyed the Heavenly Father, as an example to each of us how we are to live our lives. As God’s beloved Son pleased the Father in all things, we must become obedient children, perfecting our love towards Him and everything. It is a straight and steady walk of loving obedience towards our creator, serving His purpose for us, rather than our own.
1 John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
But as I have always said, there are going to be many people who begin the Christian walk, but simply will not obtain paradise. They began to run the race, but lacked the endurance and the obedience required to complete it. Many of them still want to believe that they will be in heaven, but the truth is if they willfully refuse to do the things that are required of them by God, they will come up short. This is because they depart from scriptural truth, and believe lies instead. They know what God’s Word teaches, they just don’t want to do what it says.
2 Peter 2:20-22 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
Jesus speaks of this same group of people in the parable of the sower. God’s Word is planted inside of their hearts, but their love for the world creeps in, and becomes greater than their love for the truth.
Mark 4:18-19 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
The Christian life is not one to be entered into lightly, because you must consider the cost and the lifestyle that will be required in order to cross the finish line. It is a race from which there is no turning back.
Luke 14:28-30 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
The willful rejection of biblical truth is spiritual suicide, and there is no place in heaven for such people. They are outside a place of repentance, condemned of themselves, and no longer find a place of forgiveness with God.
2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Lots wife is an example of someone who God saved out of the world, but she loved the world more than God. She turned away from God and turned back to the world, resulting in her own destruction.
Jude 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
Some people are not going to last because they feel Christianity is too restrictive and confined. They want freedom, but it’s not freedom from sinfulness that they seek after. It’s not the freedom that comes through submission and obedience to the will of God. They want the freedom to sin, which isn’t liberty at all. It’s bondage to the carnal nature, and a servant of sin. This faithless and impenitent form of modern Christianity Is like a scab that doesn’t heal, and just continues to weep out its own puss. Just as in the days of Noah, true faith is being depleted in this world, and you can recognize it, because they don’t endure sound doctrine. Instead of repenting of their deeds, they surround themselves with teachers who promise them life, but they walk in the death of their sins. Woe unto them who believe that they are walking in the light, while the truth is, they are abiding in darkness.
2 Timothy 4:2-4 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2 Peter 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
Instead of hearing God’s Word, they willfully turn away from it, and listen to people who say the things that they want to hear; a worldly message where repentance and sanctification isn’t required. If they won’t hear the Word of God, they are not of God.
John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
1 John 4:5-6 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
Instead of submission to God’s Word, they will resist it.
2 Timothy 3:1, 8-9 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
Just as Eve was seduced into disobedience towards God, the devil still continues to do the same thing today. Those who choose to rebelliously reject the will of God are only going to experience a giant step into a deep pit, as they find themselves passing the….
