Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Many times people are given the promise of a future inheritance by their parents, but certain conditions need to be met in order to finally obtain it. They must faithfully abide in the good graces of their parent, because an inheritance most oftentimes is given to the one who pleased the bestower.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
Although Moses didn’t care about any earthly inheritance, the one he was concerned about was inheriting the kingdom of heaven. We are granted the promise of eternal inheritance through Jesus Christ, but those who refuse to walk in faith by continuing to live in sin, will only find themselves cut out of the will.
Romans 11:21-22 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
There are many people who profess the Christian faith who do not possess any fear of God. They don’t believe that there will be any repercussions because of the sinful and disobedient way that they are living their lives.
Galatians 6:7-8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life eveverlasting.
Many times the disciples warned the church not to deceive themselves by believing a lie. Sin must be destroyed in our lives in order to receive blessings from God.
James 1:21-25 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Our God loves this world with such compassion and intensity that He sent Jesus to lay down His own life on the cross for our sins. On the other hand, those who reject His love by refusing to repent of their sins will be cast into a lake of everlasting fire, reserved for the devil and his angels.
Jude 1:3-7 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
We begin the process of salvation through water baptism, when our past is completely forgiven. We are submerged beneath the water, and then rise up to begin a new life as a newborn child of God, focused on a brand new direction of service towards Him. Baptism is only the beginning of the Christian Life. It is the first step of many that need to be taken in order to obtain eternal life. Salvation requires more than a single step, it is a daily walk. It is a life of loving and faithful obedience toward the will of God. Without obedience to the truth, one cannot cease the practice of sin. Without turning away from the deeds of the flesh, one only continues to live in them.
Even though the Lord came to save this world from sin, some will faithlessly refuse to repent and will eventually have to be destroyed. If somebody truly is undergoing the process of repentance, there will be outward evidence of an inward change. If these fruits never appear, then the tree itself will be cast into the fire.
Matthew 3:4-10 And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
The Apostle Paul taught the same thing.
Acts 26:19-20 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
Sometimes people only need a gentle rebuke in order to turn them to the correct behavior, while others need to be rebuked sharply.
John 2:12-16 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.
Titus was commanded to rebuke the church sharply.
Titus 1:12-13 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
There will be many people who profess to believe in Jesus that will not inherit the Kingdom of heaven because they refused to repent and turn away from their sins when they had the opportunity to do so.
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Hebrews 4:1-2 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
True faith is going to result in doing the will of God from your heart. It will result in departing from iniquity. Some to whom the promise was given are only going to come up short of the finish line, because they do not possess the faith required to overcome sin. On judgment day, they will only find themselves…..
……Cut out of the Will
