Entering His Rest

Good morning and welcome in.  Today we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of Hebrews.

Hebrews 4:1  Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

We are given the promise of being able to enter into eternity, but before one can obtain that promise, they must be converted to the truth.  They must turn from their sinful deeds and walk in the will of God.  Anybody who names the name of Christ is supposed to depart from iniquity, not live in iniquity.  There is a false form of Christianity that is spreading like a wildfire in the world today. It is a Christianity where repentance and conversion to the truth are not required. It’s because they love their sins more than God.  Some of them don’t even believe in a lake of fire or eternal punishment, and are unconcerned about consequences for their disobedient actions.  They seem to possess the attitude that they are permanently saved, and therefore, nothing else is required of them.

Jude 1:5  I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

One must always remember that God grants this world grace so that they can start a new life of obedience and submission to His purpose. It is given so that you learn to go and sin no more.  A transformation from the carnal nature is required to obtain eternal life. Without these life-altering changes, it only proves that they have no fear of God, which will result in punishments from Him that will begin here upon Earth, and continue eternally after the final day of judgment.

Psalms 55:19  God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.

Matthew 25:41, 46  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

There are many places of authority in this world, many of which have no fear of God. Pharaoh is a prime example. He was a person who was in a very high place of authority over his subjects, but when it came to submission to the higher authority of God, he disobediently resisted and rejected it.  When the commands of the Lord were given to him by Moses, the pharaoh mocked them, which resulted in numerous punishments from God, which is an example to all those who refuse to fear the Lord.

Hebrews 10:31  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

No matter ones place in society, God is not a respecter of persons.  He will dispense rewards and punishments according to His perfect Justice. He can extend one’s life, or shorten it. He can send healing, or He can send plagues. He can bring honor, or He can bring wrath.

Romans 2:7-11  To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:  But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;  But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.

1 Peter 1:17  And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

It’s one thing for an unbelieving world to have no fear of God, but a professing Christian? These people are twice dead plucked up by the roots.

Romans 3:18  There is no fear of God before their eyes.

The reason why people do not repent and turn from their evil way is because they have no fear of God.

Proverbs 16:6  By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

God wants all men to come to a place of repentance.  He wants them to obediently turn from their sins to the truth. He is kind and gracious in giving us the opportunity to change our course, and will not forget your obedience to the gospel.  Before entering through the gates of paradise, our works must be found acceptable with God, because God is going to punish the impenitent.

2 Corinthians 5:9-11  Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.  Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Luke 12:5  But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Psalms 89:7  God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

If somebody is walking in the true grace of God, they will possess the qualities of reverence and Godly fear towards Him, which will result in departing from sinfulness.

Hebrews 12:28  Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

2 Corinthians 7:1  Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 Timothy 2:19  Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Just as a child must submit to their earthly dad as they grow up, we must submit to the will of God as we grow in our faith.  Just as a wife is commanded by Christ to submit to her husband in everything, it is the fear of God that will cause her to obey.  The lack of obedience to God’s will is a direct result of having no fear of Him.  Without the proper fear of God, repentance can’t happen and punishments will quickly follow.

Ephesians 5:21  Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

God blesses and delivers those who fear Him.

2 Kings 17:39  But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.

Philippians 2:12  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Moses greatly feared God, as did the Apostles and disciples of Christ. This quality must be possessed by all those who have the steadfast intention of someday,…
