Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Sometimes at night when we gaze up into the heavens we might ponder momentarily at the huge emptiness of space. When we think about the distance between the planets, or try to comprehend how far it is between galaxies, it can completely overwhelm the mind. As large as it is, much of the universe is a big black void of nothingness. Some people have claimed that over 99.9% of outer space is completely vacant of anything at all.
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
There are many people who profess the Christian faith who are the very same way. They claim to be filled with the light, yet their hearts are completely void of spiritual understanding. They claim to believe in the Lord, but openly reject things that He taught. They profess that they know God but in works they deny him. Like outer space, their minds are wide open spaces of nothingness, a direct result of their rejection of biblical truth. If they don’t consent to the teachings of Christ then they are arrogant and we must turn away from them. When they turn their ears away from the truth, their minds become darkened like the blackness of space, knowing nothing as they venture out into the void.
1 Timothy 6:3-4 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing,……
When someone does not consent to the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, they are not aligning themselves with biblical truth. God’s Word has been given to us so that we can become transformed into what He wants us to become, but in this modern age that we live in, people find it easier to change the teachings of scripture rather than change their own lives. Instead of repenting and accepting scriptural truth, they fight against it, revealing their own pride and arrogance. It doesn’t matter how many years they went to college. It doesn’t matter how many post nominals that they have attached to their name. It doesn’t matter how they may appear outwardly, or the clothes that they wear. It doesn’t matter if they carry a Bible in their pocket. It doesn’t matter how many people follow them. If they openly reject the teachings of scripture, then they themselves need to be rejected. This is because they openly reject their Lord and ours. Even though they may claim to be highly educated, the truth is that they don’t know anything at all, and those who listen to them are like unto them.
Matthew 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
These are dangerous times that we live in, and it’s only going to get worse. It’s beginning to look like the days of Noah, a precursor to the end of this world. Instead of accepting the doctrines of our faith, people are turning from the truth.
2 Timothy 4:2-4 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
There is a false form of Christianity that is on the rise, and it continues to grow like a weed in the garden. It is filled with people who claim to be followers of Christ Jesus but completely deny the truth of scripture and the things that He taught.
2 Timothy 3:1-9 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
If people won’t agree with biblical truth it’s because they are arrogant. Only those who are truly of God will wholeheartedly accept and submit to them.
John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
1 John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
2 John 1:9-10 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
The one true faith was handed down to the original Apostles and disciples of Christ. It is found throughout the teachings of Holy scripture. Throughout the centuries many people have attempted to corrupt the truth and preached a false gospel, but this is why we must contend for the faith that was once given to the saints. We must avoid those who create division based upon their own rejection of biblical truth.
Romans 16:17-18 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
You can identify the true sheep of God through their obedience and submission to the gospel of Christ.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
So if people don’t consent to the teachings of Christ, they know nothing at all. Their minds are completely empty of spiritual knowledge as they speak great swelling words of vanity. If they don’t believe the truth, the only option left to them is to believe a lie. Make sure that you don’t listen and follow after them, or else you will only find yourself walking with them…..
……Into the Void.
