Switching the Channel

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

How many times have you been driving down the highway with a vehicle loaded full of youngsters?  As you drive, the children have the radio turned up very loud to something that they are all listening to as a group. After a while, the noise becomes a little irritating, so you reach over and turn the radio to some classical music. Immediately they all let out a loud cry.., hey…what are you doing !?  People want to listen to the things that they want to hear.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Sometimes instead of hearing and accepting biblical truth, people will simply switch the channel.

1 John 4:5-6  They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.  We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

God’s Word is given to us for a purpose, to help us grow up and become the person that God wants us to be.  At times this requires correction and discipline, depending on the lifestyles that we are living. Just like a dad who would correct us when we are misbehaving, scripture does the same.

2 Timothy 3:16-17  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Some people refuse to hear the preaching of God’s Word because if they did, they might receive a royal rebuke for the way that they are living their life.  When pride begins to set in, many people are so entrenched in their sinful ways that they don’t want to be told that what they are doing is wrong. After all, that would mean that God disapproves of their behavior. That would also mean that they have to make some lifestyle changes.  They don’t want to hear that God is going to punish the wicked and reward the righteous, because then they would have to turn from their sins to the truth. They would have to submit to the will of God, rather than their own.  They would have to prepare themselves right now for their court appearance at judgment Day.  So rather than hearing the preaching of God’s Word, they go somewhere else.

John 3:20-21  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Proverbs 15:12 – A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

Look around you, can’t you see that these are wicked times that we are living in?  The worst part is that people who profess to believe In Christ (who are supposed to be an example of light to this world) are living in darkness and immorality. This is because many of them are rejecting biblical truth. I guarantee you, if God’s Word was preached in a lot of these false religious bodies today, 75% of the church would get up and leave, culling out the wicked and impenitent at the same time.

We are living in a world that cannot handle God’s truth. They would rather believe a lie instead.  This is because people love their sins more than the incorruptible Word of God.  Rather than accepting the fact of their own sinfulness or miscreant behavior, they will simply switch the channel, and go somewhere that keeps off of the hot topics. A place that preaches a fluffy gospel without any spiritual sustenance at all. Words that tickle the congregants ears and makes them feel good, rather than addressing certain issues that might need to be said.

2 Timothy 4:1-4  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

There is one true faith that has been handed down to us by the original Apostles of Christ and to walk in the faith, we must submit to the will of God.  Many people don’t want to do that because they would have to convert and change certain aspects of their life, so they depart and go somewhere that tells them what they are doing is acceptable rather than telling them the truth. They open their ears wide to false prophets and heretical teachings, but close them off to God’s Word.

1 Timothy 4:1 – Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Over 20 years ago, I was asked to preach somewhere, but they told me that if I was going to come, I wasn’t allowed to talk about hell at all.  Can you imagine somebody who claimed to be a Christian saying something like that?  Jesus preached about hell and damnation. If there was no punishment for sin, then there would be nothing to be saved from.  If there was no punishment for evil, why would people feel the need to repent?  You talk about a group of people who were absolutely ashamed of the truth.  It was an attempt at religious censorship, and obviously I never went.

Luke 10:16  He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

When Andrew was 6 years old, he was already writing repent or perish on our sidewalk in front of our house. God has to punish sin, but He offers us a way out.  He gives us the opportunity to come to Christ and obtain mercy so that we can become a new person before His day of judgment.

Think of a judge in a courtroom who gives an offender probation as an opportunity to get cleaned up so they can avoid a prison sentence. But if they are going to tweak the judges nose, and mock his merciful gesture towards you, he has the power to punish you. The justice systems on this Earth are just the beginning. The eternal justice system is coming. Every person that has ever lived will have to bow the knee before our Lord Jesus Christ and the sheep will be separated from the goats. It will be either paradise or punishment, which comes down to your own response to the truth of scripture today.

Hebrews 3:15  While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

John 10:27 – My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

The time has come, and the moment is now to turn from your sins to the truth.

John 18:37 – Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Are you listening to the teachings of God’s Word, or are you……
