Winning Souls

Proverbs 11:30  The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Have you ever brought home some homework from school, and upon completing it you had your parent check over your page so that you would know if all of your answers were correct? You may had initially thought that you had gotten them all correct the first time, but after your parent checked over your work they informed you that you had made some mistakes in your work, and that you should go back and fix them so that they were right. What they did was save you from getting a bad grade, and they convinced you to make the necessary changes

Everyone comes from a place of mistakes and faults in their life, because everyone has sinned, as it states in Romans 3:23,

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

And it is those sins that are the damning factor that leads to the eventual punishment to all who continue to live in those sins.

But if someone can convince another that what they are doing is wrong and incorrect according to the Bible, and that they must repent and get forgiveness from the Lord, then what they are doing is saving the soul of that person from death and punishment in Hell.

James 5:19-20  Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

The word convert means to bring over from one set of beliefs or views to another, or to change. People make changes in their life all the time. One day they may like the taste of a certain food and maybe a year later they don’t. A child may start a school year with a certain size of shoes but by the end of the year they are one size larger. The days change from day to night. You might say that these things that I used as examples all “converted” into something different.

Well, people must change as well, and I’m not referring to changing your clothes or the things that you like to eat. People need to learn to change from the bad, sinful ways that they are living in, and become converted to the ways of Christ. That is why Jesus came to this Earth and died, to give people the opportunity to change, and that is why Jesus sent His apostles out to preach the gospel. Jesus does not want anyone to perish, but for them to turn away from their sins and come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

This is why preaching is so important, because it is a constant reminder to those who hear it of what the Bible teaches and how we must live our lives to be pleasing to the Lord. The salvation of souls is something that we should strive to accomplish, and we can do this through preaching and by living our lives as an example for others to see. We learn by hearing and seeing, and hopefully through the lives that we live we can convert those lost souls to Christ. People in the world are watching how Christians live, which is why it is so very important that we are living in a manner befitting the life of our Lord.

Hebrews 12:1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

There are souls out there that need saving, people who need changing. Will you do your part and try to convert them to Christ?

In Christ
