One Right Answer

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

Many times on a cold winter night I have reached into the closet and pulled out an old dictionary.  The family gathers around our oak table in the living room, and receives a pencil and a small slip of paper.  I then read a specific word from the dictionary, one that is unfamiliar to each of us.  Each player needs to come up with their own definition of the word, no matter how far-fetched it may seem.  I will put the true definition on a slip of paper and eventually we toss them all into an old ice cream bucket and I read them aloud. Everyone gets points by guessing the real definition.  Although there are many different versions of what the word actually means, in the end there is only one that is right.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

When we are surrounded each day by all the lies and philosophies of this world, each of us always need to remember that there is only one right answer, and you will find it by going to the source of truth, the Lord Jesus Christ and the teachings of his Holy Word.

Ephesians 4:21  If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

To discern all the lies of the world we need a liberal dose of God’s truth. Truth can protect us from believing lies and being led astray into sin with others. This is why our hearts and minds need to be filled regularly with scripture, because when we believe it, we will turn away from things that are displeasing unto God, and be set free from sin by the acceptance of the truth.

John 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Hebrews 3:13  But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Sin is very deceitful and the more that one get involved with it, the more one’s heart becomes hardened to the truth. The more sin that someone possesses in their life, the less inclined they will be to accept the error of their way.  The more lies that someone believes, the more difficult it becomes to believe the truth which can ultimately lead to repentance, conversion, sanctification and salvation. Like a close friend, we need to embrace and love the truth, because whatever you love most is going to tip the scales to one side. You will either possess a love for the truth, or a love for sin. Those who reject the truth are rejecting Christ because He is the truth, and those who reject Him will receive damnation.

2 Thessalonians 2:10-13  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.  But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

When a person is established in the faith, it means that they are well grounded in biblical truth. It is the one thing that anchors our souls as we are surrounded by the raging seas of iniquity and the lies of this world. When we trust God’s truth, it is capable of delivering us from all the false teachings and ideologies of this place.

Colossians 2:6-8  As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:  Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

This is why Timothy was instructed to continue preaching God’s Word, because there would be some who eventually would turn away from the truth, and believe lies instead.

2 Timothy 4:1-4  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

We are supposed to grow into spiritual maturity.  When we do, we will not allow ourselves to be deceived by others.

Ephesians 4:14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

The devil will put forth lies and present them as if they were the truth. Annanias did this to Peter, and died on the spot. (Acts 5) The devil and all those like unto him will be punished both now, and eternally, because liars will inherit the Lake of fire.

John 8:44  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

In order to someday inherit eternal life, we must acknowledge and accept the truth which is found in Jesus and His Holy Word.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

God doesn’t desire that people perish.  He wants them to repent, which can only happen when you accept the truth.

2 Peter 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

1 Timothy 2:4  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

At certain times, the devil’s will present themselves as apostles or ministers of Christ Jesus, while the truth is, they are only wolves in sheep’s clothing.  They are deceivers and liars, positioning themselves in high places of religious authority for the purpose of turning people away from the truth in Christ. The devil doesn’t teach you to obey or submit to the truth of scripture, but will attempt to get you to believe a lie instead.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

So as the world tries to deceive us by defining right and wrong, just remember to look to Christ, because there is only……
