True Colors

Good morning and welcome in everybody.  Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.

It is commonly known that many chameleons can change their color. Apparently, there are many different reasons why they do this, such as blending in with their surroundings in order to protect themselves from predators. Others might change color because of body temperatures, mating rituals, or just because of their general mood.

This reminds me of the Christian Life.

Some people in the church can quickly change colors too.  Instead of accepting the truth as they have been taught, they can have a mood swing, and their religious opinions begin to change. When this happens, their true colors are reflected through their disinclination to do the will of God. Unlike a changing chameleon, a follower of Christ does not change their beliefs, because they have been firmly established in scripture, which liveth and abideth forever. God’s Word never changes, and neither should our faith.

1 Timothy 4:1-2  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

It’s one thing to convert to the truth, but some people choose to convert to the world instead.  When somebody departs the faith, it means that they turn aside from scriptural teachings, and their beliefs become skewed. They suddenly change the direction or position that they held in their past, allowing their religious opinions to become distorted in such a manner that it becomes completely inaccurate and misleading. Like a painting hung on a wall that eventually becomes tilted, their viewpoints become slanted or off-center from scriptural truth.  There is only one faith and only one gospel, by which we are sanctified through faith.  God’s Word is unchangeable and teaches us the path that we must follow.  But some are going to decide to deviate from the traditional doctrines that were handed down to us by the original Apostles of Christ Jesus. Instead of steadfastly fighting to continue walking in the truth faith, they will give in to lies, and succumb to doctrines of devils.

Jude 1:3  Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

When a person becomes a Christian, they can walk for many years, abiding faithfully in the truth, but then, for whatever the reason, they are led astray. They become seduced and convinced by the devil that what they are doing is right.  This is what happened to Eve in the garden of Eden, and it continues to go on today in numerous places that profess the Christian faith.  Instead of taking heed to the teachings of the Gospel, they eventually begin to slip away because they pay more attention to the tempting and convincing doctrines of devils.  Like a fish that has been caught, and completely gives up the fight, these people deny the truth and succumb to the teachings of this world. This is the beginning of heresy, which is defined as dissent and deviation from scriptural truth.  It is to depart from the generally accepted teachings of scripture.

1 Corinthians 11:18-19  For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.  For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

Once false doctrines begin to establish themselves within a church group, Spiritual men of God must rise up quickly and nip it in the bud, otherwise it can grow like yeast in bread, and thereby many shall be deceived.

2 Peter 2:1-3  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

These are perilous times that we live in, and each day it looks more and more like the days of Noah. It is an age of great confusion because many people are turning their ears from the truth, and it will only get worse.

2 Timothy 3:13  But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

They want to try to make the Christian faith fit their own lifestyle, and yet still believe that they are somehow on their way to heaven. They want to retain their immorality, yet keep their salvation intact.  This is pure foolishness.  Instead of departing from sin, they choose to live in it.  They figure that if the world does it, then it’s okay for a Christian to do it too, but the things of this Earth and the Spiritual realm are on two completely different playing fields.  The world and its lusts are going to pass away, but he that does the will of God abideth forever.  This is why God’s Word must be preached, because some will not endure sound doctrine.

2 Timothy 4:2-4  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

So once again, when false doctrine begins influencing a church body, it can grow very rapidly. When the seed of earthly lies are planted within peoples hearts, they willfully choose the path of impenitence, and surround themselves with numerous false teachers who all share the same heretical opinions as they do.  They believe that the sheer number of people who follow them is proof that their heretical beliefs are correct, but God doesn’t judge by appearance, He judges by obedience to His will.

2 Thessalonians 2:10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

So remember, that In the latter times, some will change their mind about scripture, and depart from the true faith. They never really developed a lasting love for Jesus and His Word, which only reveals their..
