The Kingdom is at Hand

Do you know how when we go to sleep at night it seems that we just laid down on the pillow and closed our eyes, when all of a sudden the alarm is going off and it is morning once again and it is time to get up. It may have been 7 or 8 hours that you slept but it all went in the blink of an eye. The time passed by at the normal speed of course, but to you it seemed just an instant. This is how I imagine it is when we die, as when the light fades from our eyes and our soul leaves our body it’s rather similar to when we go to sleep, but instead of us waking up the next morning we wake up and it is Judgement Day. When I think of all of the people who died thousands of years ago this is what I envision. They die as though they are going to sleep, but when they wake up thousands of years have passed and they are standing before the Lord.

Life is so short, it truly is, especially when you try to comprehend what eternity is, and this is why there is absolutely no time to waste or put off repenting and changing from our sinful ways.

Matthew 4:17  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

If something is “at hand” it is close, impending, near in time, or about to happen. It is imminent. The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand Jesus teaches, and He calls people to repent and turn away from their sins. We do not know which day may be our last or when the Lord will return, and for this reason the Kingdom of Heaven certainly is at hand.

What are some things that you might put off until a later time? Maybe you have a certain chore around the house such as cleaning the bathroom or maintaining your heating furnace in the basement, and it is something that you really do not like to do so you put it off until another day. It might really need to be done that day, but you decide to procrastinate and do something else with your day. Well, procrastination is something that no one can afford to do when it comes to turning away from sin. Repentance cannot wait until next week, because you might not be here next week. You could die tonight in your sleep, or tomorrow morning on your way to work. Tomorrow is not the day to repent. Next week or next month are not either. Today is the day to repent. Now is the day of salvation.

2 Corinthians 6:2  (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

We must repent of our sins, and repent means to feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s wrongdoing or sin. This is something that we have all done at one point or another. We have all sinned against God and we all need to repent before it becomes too late.

The Kingdom of Heaven is very close, closer than some might think. Time is short, repent today!

In Christ
