Be Bold and Ask

Do you have someone that you know who you could call at any moment and they would be there to help you? A friend or neighbor who you know that whatever problem you found yourself in you could count on to be at your aid in a moment’s notice?

It’s nice to have someone like this in your life. It’s very comforting. Well we can have this comfort in our own lives because we can have the knowledge that if we come to the Lord Jesus for His mercy and grace we will receive it, we just need to come forward boldly believing the promise from the scriptures.

Hebrews 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Bold means to be unafraid, and to be confident, and not ashamed. There were a couple of men in the Bible who fit this description in Matthew 20.

Matthew 20:29-34  And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.

And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?

They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

In this passage these two men had a problem: they were blind. But when they heard that Jesus was near they cried out to Him, trying to get His attention. The people around them began to get angry with them because they were so loud, but the men cried out even louder, and as a result Jesus called out for the men to come to Him, and He healed them. They received mercy because of their faith. They didn’t care when others around them told them to stop, they were bold in their plea to the Lord and they were healed.

Like these men, we all need to be filled with confidence and be bold when we come before the Lord for His grace and mercy. Everyone has sinned, and because of this everyone needs to receive forgiveness for those sins, and that is the key here: you need to ask. Asking for things is something that not everyone is comfortable with, maybe because they don’t want to be told “no,” but everyone must do it if they want to have their sins taken away by the Lord.

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Matthew 7:7-8  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

When we ask anything of the Lord we must believe that we will get what we pray for. We must be bold in our asking, and believe that He is able to fulfill our petition to Him.

This is something that I needed to work on when I was a child, because there were many times when I wanted something such as a small toy or even a candy bar, but many times I stopped short of asking for them from my parents. I didn’t want to be told “no” and because this thought loomed in my mind I didn’t always get the things that I wanted. Because I didn’t ask.

But you see as Christians, we must ask. We must ask the Lord in our prayers, and when we do it we need to be bold, unafraid, and unashamed, because we can know that when we pray He is able and willing to grant us our prayers.

John 14:13-14  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

That is a promise, and the Lord always keeps His promises. Mercy is available for everyone, be bold and ask!

In Christ
