Good morning and welcome in everybody. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from the book of Psalms, and today’s topic will be on hope.
First of all, hope is having a feeling of expectation and desire for something to happen. It means to trust in God completely, believing that what you desire He will bring to pass.
Psalms 146:5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
David placed His complete hope and faith in God’s Deliverance from the hand of Goliath. God had delivered him in the past, and it was going to happen again.
1 Samuel 17:45-50 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands. And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
The Bible is filled with promises, but in order to reap them, we must have faith and confidently believe in God’s deliverance. Abraham had been promised a son, but even when he grew old, when others might have given up hope, his confidence never wavered. He completely trusted that God would bring it to pass. He knew that God could do exactly what He had said, and God did. This is called Faith righteousness.
Romans 4:18-22 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. .And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Genesis 18:14 – Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
Even when you ask for wisdom from God, you must ask knowing that He will grant it to you.
James 1:5-6 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
We are not to doubt the things that God can do and complete.
Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Jeremiah 32:27 – Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
Hope is knowing that all things are possible with God.
Matthew 19:26 – But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Luke 1:37 – For with God nothing shall be impossible.
When Peter stepped out to walk on the water, He placed complete trust and confidence in God, but then fear and doubts crept in, causing him to sink, but Jesus reached out to help him.
Matthew 14:25-31 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Doubts must be replaced by fully trusting God.
Mark 11:23-24 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Prayer mingled with confident faith in God is a very powerful thing.
James 5:14-15 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
God wants to give things to us, but we must first believe that He’s a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Matthew 7:7-11 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
God is capable of answering faith filled prayers.
Ephesians 3:20-21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
So as we started out with today, hope is having a feeling of expectation and desire for something to happen. It means to trust in God completely, believing that what you desire He will bring to pass.
Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Are you trusting in God? Do you have faith in Him? Have you placed your hope in the one who can deliver us from all things? Do you have….
