If a business decides to have a giant sale in their store where they have greatly reduced the prices of many of their goods, what is the one main thing that they must do to get those goods sold? They must make everyone aware that they are having that sale. They might put up giant signs outside of their building to catch attention, they might advertise their prices in a magazine or newspaper, and even on their website. They have to do this because unless people are told no one is going to show up to take advantage of those deals.
Well people need to hear about the amazing love of Jesus Christ. They need to hear the incredible news that Jesus has died for them so that they could be saved, but unless someone actually becomes the messenger to tell them, how will they ever hear it?
Romans 10:9-15 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
Belief in Jesus is required if someone is going to be in Heaven, and in order to believe in Jesus they must first hear about Him. That’s the function of a preacher, to tell others about the Lord and His teachings. However, it is the sad truth that many people will not be in Heaven, and this is why it is all the more important for preachers to preach Christ’s gospel to those who haven’t heard it. The laborers in the Gospel are few, the Bible teaches, and there are plenty of people to reach with the news of Christ.
Luke 10:1-2 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
Little seeds of faith, that is what must be planted in the hearts of people everywhere. Seed by seed, planting seeds of faith. Not every seed will grow, as not everyone will accept the Lord as their Savior, but they must all have the opportunity before them to make the decision to either follow Jesus or not. They must be told so that they can be saved.
It is a mission that needs to be done. Jesus called His apostles to do it, and they fulfilled their mission faithfully; just look at all of the people who have benefited from their works! So many people, and they all heard about Jesus and had the opportunity to receive salvation because someone told them. But now it is our turn. How many people will we tell about Jesus? The world is the field, and it’s time to start spreading the news about Jesus.
In Christ
