On April 10, 1915, the RMS Titanic left Southampton England on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. At a length of nearly 900 feet it was at that time the largest ship afloat on the seas, and was claimed to be “unsinkable.” However, just five days later that “unsinkable” ship struck an iceberg that tore a large gash into the ship’s hull, resulting in the eventual sinking of the ship. Probably one of the most well known facts about the Titanic was that of the approximate 2200 people on board, there were only enough lifeboats to accommodate barely only half of them, which was definitely a very large determining factor in the amount of lives lost that day.
As I read about that event in history I try to imagine the incredible horror that those people must have felt, just seeing the lifeboats full of people leaving them behind in the freezing waters. They wanted to be saved, yet there weren’t enough boats onboard to bring them to safety.
If you think of the world as the RMS Titanic, this world will someday too “sink” because it will one day be destroyed, and all those who don’t receive salvation that comes from Christ will perish along with it. However, unlike the Titanic which had a limited amount of space to rescue its passengers, the Lord wants to save all that will come to Him. Each and every one of those who come to Him looking for salvation He will not turn away.
John 6:35-40 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Jesus wants to save people from the death of their sins. He wants to grant everlasting life to all who seek Him; that is why He died on the cross 2000 years ago. It is like He is in a lifeboat going around picking up everyone out of the water to deliver them to salvation.
But ultimately the decision to go for that salvation rests on the person themselves. They must decide whether or not they want to be saved. Jesus does not force anyone to believe in Him or force anyone to obey His Word, but He leaves that choice up to each individual. You might envision it as Jesus on a boat holding His hand out to the people in that freezing water, just waiting for someone to grab it and be saved.
1 Timothy 2:1-6 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
This world will one day be destroyed, there is no doubt, but you don’t need to be among those who perish along with it. Jesus wants to save you, and there will always be plenty of room in His boat.
In Christ
