Filled With The Spirit

On a hot summer day that you might spend in your backyard, what is something that many of us will want? A nice cold drink of some sort quite often, isn’t it? You may have gone outside with a water bottle when you first started, but as it is so often the case on hot days, that bottle will eventually become empty. Maybe you might ask someone if they would take your bottle and go into the house to fill it up again, but just imagine if someone came back outside and handed you the bottle but when you looked at it you realized that they had hardly filled it at all! You might kind of look at them with the expression that says, “Where’s the rest?” It’s hot outside! You want a full bottle, filled all the way up to the top!

That exact feeling is how we should desire to be filled with the fullness of the Spirit of the Lord, so that it overflows and reaches all of the areas of our life.

Ephesians 3:14-19  For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

You might kind of think of it as when you go on a road trip and each night you stop at a hotel to rest up. The hotel room might have some things in it, a bed, a TV, some lamps and dressers, along with your bag of clothes, but it isn’t really home. A home is usually filled with all sorts of your things, knick knacks, collectables, all of your food–the things that make your home your “home.” You live in your house with all of your things, and we should desire to have our hearts filled completely with the things of God.

Whatever it is, whether it be our speech, our actions, our thoughts, we want our lives to be constantly filled with God’s Word. To dwell in all areas of our life, so that it may be clearly evident to all who see us that we serve the Lord. Being a Christian is a life, not a weekend stay. It is a daily quest that we must fulfill, and we must fill our days by serving the Lord in all things.

2 Timothy 3:16-17  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Thoroughly furnished. Like a home that is fully furnished and full of things we must be filled with the Spirit, each day, all day, in all areas of our life.

In Christ
