The Lord Rewards

Some things that some people like to do with their spare time is to buy an older home that needs fixing with the intent of slowly fixing it up and eventually selling it someday. They will go slowly through each part of the home fixing what is broken, and updating anything outdated. The roof may leak so they have new shingles put on the roof. The walls might need to be repainted so they go and find a can of nice new paint and methodically go through each room of the house until all of the rooms look nice and fresh. Maybe the old plumbing pipes leak and need to be torn out and replaced with brand new ones. Every little thing that they do to that house, from fixing a creaky floorboard to putting new hinges on the door, they all add up over time, and someday when it’s all done, all of those little improvements that they had made they will receive their payment for when they sell the house. Because of their consistent work that they did without fail, they reaped their reward.

Similarly, any good work that we do as Christians is like working on that house. Each day whenever we do good it is as though we are slowly storing up our rewards in Heaven. Any good work or deed, however big or small, is another reward that we can start storing up until the day that we get to “cash them all in.”

Galatians 6:9  And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

“Don’t be tired of doing good” is basically what Paul was teaching, because eventually we will be rewarded for our good works. The Lord will see all of the things that you do for Him and He will reward you someday for your faithful service to Him.

Colossians 3:23-24  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

We can do a number of good works each day, from helping others to grow in the Gospel to taking care of your family to singing praises unto the Lord. Whatever it is, no work that you can do for the Lord will not go unrewarded. You just need to keep on doing them, the more the better. Ultimately how big your reward is someday depends on you and how you spend your time for the Lord. So do lots of good works! Whenever you have the opportunity do one more, and then do another one later, because all of those good works will add up into something very big that you will be rewarded for.

Ephesians 6:8  Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

The Lord rewards the works of the faithful who serve Him. Seek those rewards, and start storing them up!

In Christ
