The Light

John 12:46  I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

During the night have you ever been awoken by the sound of thunder and high wind outside of your window? Reaching over to turn on the lamp by your bed you may have noticed something when you flipped on the switch. Nothing happened because the power was out. Completely in the dark you fumbled around for your flashlight in the drawer of your nightstand, which upon finding and turning on lit up your way to help you to see where you needed to go.

It certainly is nice to have a flashlight in a situation like this isn’t it? Because without it you would have no idea where you were going, as you would be just stumbling around in the dark with nothing to guide you.  

People can become lost because of their sins in this world, blinded and in the dark with nothing to guide them. They need something to light their path through this life so that at the end they will end up in the right place. They need Jesus, the one true Light that no one should be without. 

John 8:12  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Without Jesus we are all lost. The teachings of Christ found in the Holy Scriptures are what we need to guide us through the darkness of this world. Just think about it, what if we didn’t have the Bible to read and learn from? How would we know what we need to be doing if we desire to have a life after our current one ends? Eternal life is most definitely a very real thing, but it can only be attained through following the teachings of Christ Jesus, our Light.

John 12:35-36  Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

People have been searching for thousands of years of ways to live longer, even forever in the case of some. They have tried to eat certain special foods, try to find a mythical fountain that would grant eternal youth, among many other things. t But the key to living forever is not found in anything that you do on the Earth. It is only found in the Door, the Light, Jesus Christ.

John 10:7-10  Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
