Good morning and welcome in everyone. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture from First John.
1 John 4:7-14 ⁷ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. ⁸ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. ⁹ In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. ¹² No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. ¹³ Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. ¹⁴ And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
The Apostles cared greatly for the church people, calling them beloved. Jesus laid down His own life to save all of us. We must take the love that God has shown unto us and give it to one another. We see God’s love at the cross when Jesus died for us, but we also see the evidence of God’s love each and every day as the sun shines down upon this Earth. We must remember that everything was already provided to us by God, before we were even born. He causes the food to grow right out of the ground, provides an ample supply of fish to eat from the lakes, and gives us water to cool our thirst. Creation itself is the evidence of God’s love. God is love, and the message since the very beginning is to love one another. Able was a man of great faith, who loved God dearly, but he was hated by his own brother.
Hebrews 11:4 “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.”
Cain hated Him so much, that eventually he killed him.
1 John 3:11-15 ¹¹ For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. ¹² Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. ¹³ Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. ¹⁵ Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
God does not desire people to perish, He wants them to repent and believe the truth. He wants them to turn from their sins, and turn to Christ. Instead of following the wide road of the world, He wants us to follow the narrow path of His Son.
John 3:16 ¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
1 John 5:11 “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”
It’s not that we loved God, but that He loved us first. He loved us so much that He gave His Son Jesus as a payment for our sins. Through His grace, we can undergo a transformation into brand new creatures, learning how to love Him through His love for this world.
Romans 5:6-11 ⁶ For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷ For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. ⁸ But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹ Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. ¹⁰ For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. ¹¹ And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Each one of us is a sinner who needs to get forgiven through Christ, washing away our sins through the precious blood of the Lamb.
Romans 3:23-25 ²³ For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
²⁴ Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: ²⁵ Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Because God loved us so much, we need to love each other the same way, in the Spirit and in Truth.
John 15:12 “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”
John 13:34-35 ³⁴ A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. ³⁵ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Once we understand the great lengths that God has undergone to save our souls, we need to return that great love for Him. We prove our love for God through our obedience and submission to the gospel of Truth. It is a fulfillment of the first and great commandment.
1 John 2:5 “But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”
John 14:21,23-24 ²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. ²⁴ He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
Have you received the grace of God through the blood of Jesus? Have you accepted His love for you? Do you love Him enough to serve and submit to His perfect will, because this is the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
