If you stand in front of a mirror and look at yourself, the image that you see in front of you isn’t physically you, it is a reflection. It is a likeness of you, much like a video on a TV screen. When you watch a video the things that you watch are not physically in front of you at that moment, because it is a recording of someone else at a different time, yet you still can see it.
Well in a way that is how Christians are supposed to be: a mirror or representation of the way that Christ lived and taught. We are not, obviously, Jesus Himself, but through our life and the way that we treat others we can show the world Who Jesus is. John the Baptist did this, and he pointed people to Christ.
John 1:6-9 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
That was John’s purpose, he pointed people to Jesus, being in a manner of speaking a reflection of the Lord as he told people the truth of the gospel, calling on others to repent and turn from their sins.
As followers of Jesus Christ, it is the duty of a Christian to emulate the qualities of Christ, by showing love and forgiveness, and to live our lives according to the way that Jesus would love, so that others may see our faith and believe themselves.
Matthew 5:14-16 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Just as you might look into your mirror each morning and look at yourself to see what you look like, people are looking at you and they will notice how you live, how you speak, how you act, and because of this we must let our lights for Jesus shine! We must set a good example for others to follow so that they too might one day be a bright beacon for the Lord. That is why the Lord sent out His disciples to go and preach the gospel, so that more and more people would have the opportunity to receive salvation.
Sometimes when you need to assemble something or don’t know how to do something, sometimes the best way to learn how to do it is to watch someone else do it, and through that you can achieve your goal. Let yourself be that example for others to see! Imitate the Lord so that others may see and believe!
In Christ
