Good morning and welcome in everyone. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to tell you a little story.
Many years ago, my wife would grab a few books to read and would follow us around in our truck as Andrew and I would walk from door to door handing out flyers. We would travel around southern Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and South Dakota in an attempt to spread the truth of the gospel of Christ. During the day, we would walk around town and then, late in the afternoon, we would go back to our campground. Actually, one of my children was conceived while we were spreading the gospel in South Dakota. I remember the campground, and that day like it was yesterday, the summer of 2007. At that time, Andrew and I were handing out a newsletter, and one of the articles was called mommy worship.
Today, there are many people who profess to be Christian who really don’t worship Jesus. They worship money, they worship the things of this world, and they worship their mommy. As children, when we grow up in a home, the Lord Jesus requires that you obey your parents. But many people grow into adulthood and love their parents more than the teachings of Jesus Christ. Do you really think the devil shows up in a red cape and horns? Just as an earthly courtroom, there is evidence of the works of the devil. The devil leads people away from doing the will of God. Although we are sinners and may make a mistake at times, the devil purposely turns people away from serving Christ. Many people love their mother more than Jesus. They follow their mother rather than following Him. People such as these are unworthy of salvation. Once you choose to serve relatives above the teachings of Christ it is called worship, and is a violation of the first commandment. Incredibly, many mothers, instead of pointing their offspring to Christ, or to obey their husbands, are enamored with the attention, an attribute of the devil. They really aren’t biblical mothers, they are a false prophetess. Listen to what Jesus told the devil.
“Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Matthew 4:10
My family knows that I grew up in a church group where my own relatives who were women, were preaching behind the lectern. It all felt strange to me but I didn’t say anything because I was so young. As an adult I realized that this is condemned in the scripture. Their denomination went on to ordain homosexuals, because of which I have had nothing to do with them for 25 years. In fact, when I first became baptized by submersion, they were so upset with me that they joined up with other relatives and in-laws to bear false witness against me. Parents that I trusted since my birth called me a cult. They joined up with in-laws and called out the police on me, spread lies about me (that they knew were not true), took me to court, and it goes on and on. Andrew and my wife can bear testimony of all these things that have come to pass in my life. My wife wept at the wicked statements in court papers that were sent to us by her own relatives. It was because people wanted to control me, rather than allow me to be controlled by Christ and his teachings. The place I was raised I now realize is led by false prophets. It is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. They are wicked, and I’m admonishing people to take note of them, and to keep your distance. It doesn’t end there, because I went to many other church groups who actually believe the same heresies.
Andrew and my wife can bear witness that one time at a church service, I stood up while a preacher’s wife was speaking. I immediately addressed the men of the church that women were commanded to keep silent. I was escorted to the front door and almost thrown out onto the pavement. This is modern day Christianity, and it is a fraud. Instead of reverencing God, they worship women, and without repentance, they will be damned.
Mark 10 ²⁹ And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, ³⁰ But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. ³¹ But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
Notice that it doesn’t say “husband” in this passage. This is because it is a commandment of God for a Christian woman who has been baptized, not to depart their husband. Separation and divorce is forbidden in the New Testament.
A wife is not supposed to depart from her husband, and is to obey him in everything. If she has been baptized into the faith and willfully chooses to go against the teachings of Christ, God is going to punish that openly and quickly. Their shame will be exposed in a public manner. I think of Lot’s wife, whose love was misplaced. Instead of loving the Lord Jesus and her own husband, she loved the world instead and tried to return to what they had left. Her children were far more obedient than she was. They were saved but their mother was destroyed.
Obviously we are called to love one another, but only to a certain point. When you love anybody more than the teachings of Jesus, you become unfit for the kingdom of God.
It doesn’t matter what relative it may be, or how wonderful or kind they may appear on the exterior. The devil is a master of deceit, but can be readily identified because they encourage, and lead you away from performing the perfect will of God. It is the devil who wants to be worshiped and in control of others. God has granted a husband the authority and control of his own household, but the devil will usurp that control. He is a snake and a wolf who appears as a sheep, or even as a mother. Remember that the Lord Jesus Christ, rejected his own mother because she was outside the will of God.
Matthew 12 ⁴⁶ While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. ⁴⁷ Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. ⁴⁸ But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? ⁴⁹ And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! ⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Remember that it is not your mother who died for you on the cross. There is only one name by which we can be saved, Jesus Christ. Sometimes I wonder what people will think when their own relatives are cast away into a lake of fire. Will they be upset when they are punished? Will they weep and wail or even choose to jump in with them? Yet they do the same thing today because they love blood relatives more than the teachings of Christ. Anyone who advises you against the will of God, is the devil. They can appear as an angel of light, or even as the gentlest of mothers.
“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
2 Corinthians 11:14
How many of you men have been joined together with a wife in a Christian relationship, but then she decides to depart and separate from you. Maybe she condemns you for certain behaviors that you have committed, but then in complete hypocrisy, she condemns herself by rejecting the commands of Christ by usurping over her husband and departing from his presence. She becomes the epitome of the pot calling the kettle black. She becomes the proud Pharisee who despises her husband for certain activities while she commits the same ones herself. God sees these things and will reward accordingly.
Matthew 10 ³⁴ Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. ³⁶ And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. ³⁷ He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
A Christian woman has no command or authority over a man. A mother has no authority over her daughter when she is married. Those who willfully usurp men will simply fall into the ditch that the devil has already dug for them. They are so blinded by sin that they won’t even see it coming. A man can never truly be a real man of God, if they allow themselves to get involved with…..
