Good morning and welcome in everyone. Today, we are going to take a look at a passage of scripture, but before we do that, I wanted to ask you a little question.
Have you ever sat down at the supper table for dinner, when one of your parents filled up your plate with a heaping pile of mashed potatoes? They were in a huge mound, stacked high on your plate with some hot gravy. Have you ever had a plow come by your home after a snowstorm? When they got to your driveway to turn around, they pushed the snow up into a huge hill, that your children could slide on. Have you ever been to the laundromat, and after bringing in your heavy laundry bag, you dumped it all out onto the floor in one big mountain of dirty laundry?
This reminds me of the Christian Life.
When you heap something, it means to stack it up high, and make a big pile out of it. It’s a large amount, or a great deal of something. The Apostle Paul taught that some people would turn their ears away from God’s Word, and would heap up teachers to themselves who preached fables and a false gospel.
2 Timothy 4:1-4 ¹ I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; ² Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
A fable is a fictitious narrative or statement. Instead of accepting scripture, some people will believe the lies of this world. It’s exactly what the devil did to Eve in the garden of Eden. She was seduced to go against the will of God, and she actually believed the lie. She was completely deceived. Some people continue to do the same things right now. They listen to those who tell them exactly what they want to hear, but remember, a little yeast leaveneth the whole lump. To be converted, we have to accept the truth of God’s Word. Those who turn their ears from the truth, will only believe a lie instead.
2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 ¹¹ And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Some people actually teach that you’re not required to repent from dead works, and sin is acceptable. This is why there is so much sin going on in certain religious bodies today. Many people refuse to stand up and say anything against it. After all, when they preach that you don’t have to repent, a lot of the world will show up. It is a gathering where nothing is required on your part. It’s a gathering of the impenitent. These deceivers will grow worse and worse before the return of Jesus Christ.
2 Timothy 3:13. “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
They will have a form of godliness but deny the power of a spirit-filled life through the rejection of the teachings of scripture. They will turn away their ears from the truth.
2 Peter 2:1-2. ¹ But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
2 Timothy 3:1-9 ¹ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. ² For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, ⁴ Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵ Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. ⁶ For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
⁷ Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
Many people want to keep their Christianity, but they don’t want to repent. Many of them will take the wide road to destruction, choosing to follow those who are on the same path of disobedience with them.
Matthew 7:13-14 ¹³ Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: ¹⁴ Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
The world will readily listen to false prophets and non-spiritual people because they are not of God. It’s only the manifestation of the end times false Christian Church.
John 8:47 “He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”
Hebrews 12:25 “See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:”
And again….
1 John 4:5-6 ⁵ They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. ⁶ We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
When something is false, it is a fake, just like a counterfeit bill. They are not the real articles.
Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
Just like heaping up a big pile of garbage in the dumpster, there is a heaping pile of false prophets today. Look around at the sign of the times, and you’ll see what I mean.
Matthew 24:11. “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”
Matthew 24:24. “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 ¹³ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Look at all the people in these religious bodies, teaching things that they shouldn’t for filthy Lucre’s sake. They surround themselves with others who believe lies over the truth. Take note of them when you see them heaping up all of the……
